Q: I too am getting the "Moving calendars to server account" pane when I open iCal

I too am getting the "Moving calendars to server account" pane when I open iCal. All fixes I have read seem to involve turning iCal off an on and/or rebooting. I cannot touch iCal. All is grayed out in iCal and in iCloud system preferences. I am using 10.8.5 and iCal version ... Well, that is grayed out too. Waiting a really long time does not seem to help.

    Thanks, melisolaris

Presumably you saved my day, but I still have to check if I now can activate iCloud sync again without the "moving calendars to server account" side effect...

    Hi melisolaris,

Brilliant solution to the 'Moving calendars to server account' message - worked perfectly - I think people are falling into the trap as part of OSX Mavericks update encourages you to link the accounts - works for me. Loving the complete look across all IOS devices now, another excellent update from Apple.

    It's me again, melisolaris

In the end it didn't really work...

I could actually sync the stuff already contained in iCloud, but most of my local calendars were not there...

Any idea how I can transfer my local calendars to iCloud?

    I'm back again...
Finally I managed it by exporting all of my calendars, disconnecting calendar from iCloud & deleting my local calendars, re-connecting calendar to iCloud & re-importing the whole stuff...

    (as given here: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4967)

It wasn't easy, but now it seems to be OK again.

    Hi Stephan,

Sorry to hear my fix didn't work for you.  That method was specifically geared to iCloud calendars.

I would definitely suggest you changing your default calendar on your iCal to a calendar currently on your iCloud (e.g. I have 4 iCloud calendars: Personal, Business, School, and Work):

    > Open iCal > Calendars > Preferences > General > Default Calendar

You can pick one of the iCloud calendars that you have, and the events you input on your Mac should now show in your iCloud, as well as your iPhone.

Back to your question. I'm not sure I understood it correctly. When you say "local calendars," do you mean another email account (e.g. google, yahoo)? You can make those calendars visible on your iCal and iPhone (as opposed to transferring all events over to iCloud).

    *On the iPhone*

If an email account, you can go to your iPhone and set up that account:

    > Settings > Mail, Contacts, Calendars > Add Account

OR simply enable the calendar feature for those accounts.

    > Settings > Mail, Contacts, Calendars > Click on account > Make sure "Calendars" is green/on

Once that's in, you should be able to see changes reflected on your account and your iPhone.

    *On iCal*

Enable the account calendar (check the box) if you see the account on the lefthand side.

If not, add the account on your iCal.

    > Calendar > Add Account... > Select account

    Hope this helps!

    Thanks melisolaris!

My local calendars were locally synchronised ones from the calendar app. As I was forced to decide to sync to iCloud by upgrading to Mavericks instead of synching locally between iPhone & MacBook Pro I needed a way to get all my old stuff to iCloud...

Hi, I tried your solution but when it came to the step >System Preferences>iCloud>Uncheck Calendars and Reminders I cannot uncheck the Calendars and Reminders.(I have a check mark but the area is grayed out). To the right I have a spinning ball with the words "setting up". Any suggestions? Thank you!

Quitting iCloud and then adding the iCloud calendar to iCal worked for me. Thanks!!

Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!  I've tried several times to move Calendars to iCloud and always ended up with having to force quit and restore from backup.  The "simple" step of adding the iCloud account was what I never thought of.  Not exactly intuitive!  So, again, THANK YOU!

You are a genius! I'm not talking about the ones at Apple...that have NO clue how to fix this! I was VERY upset when I lost my "info" tab in itunes after "updating" (downgrading as far as I'm concerned). Leaving me unable to sync my devices (as I have been for 5 years) thru itunes!  10 hours later (after finding this link) I am up and running! tytytyty!

God bless you Jim! I wasn't finding a solution and was going to reverse my Maverick installation!  THANK YOU SO MUCH for your kindness in posting your solution.
