I inadvertently added a program "Tuneupmymac" and found it was a sales sight. I believe it has inserted some malware on my iMac and want to uninstall it. Uninstalling is very simple on Windows. How can I uninstall a program on my IMAC?

I inadvertenly installed a "sample" program "tuneupmymac" and i have been having problems ever since. How does one uninstall an application on an iMac?

iMac, Mac OS X (10.6.8)

Check to see if Tuneupmymac comes with an uninstaller application.

Make sure the application is not running and drag the Application to the trash.

There may be additional Preference files located in you Home Folder/Library/Preferences. Find them and drag to trash.

There may be additional Application Support files located in your Home Folder/Library/Application Support. Find them and drag to trash.

Tuneupmymac may install system files, which take a little more work to find and delete. You could try typing tuneupmymac in Spotlight to see if there are any other additional files.

Hi. I think i found the same information on how to uninstall TUNEUPMYMAC from the following website.

http://support.tuneupmedia.com/hc/en-us/articles/200440408-How-can-I-uninstall-T uneUp-from-my-computer-

It says the same thing as Joe Gramm said above. You cannot simply drag the application to the garbage from the Launch Pad. You have to go into the actual applications folder in the Finder folder. Then you can drag the TUNEUPMYMAC icon to the garbage. Then you also have to do a few other steps that the link says to do as well as what Joe Gramm said to do - about the Preferences files also located in the Applications folder:

/Library/Preferences. Find them and drag to trash.

The link gives a good picture illustration on what to do.

I inadvertently added Tuneupmymac. So frustrated to remove it. I emailed Tuneupmymac and they sent some riducluous way to remove it. I got so upset I told them that it was not fair to do this and I would report them. They then sent me this email. I hope this helps everyone. It worked and it has be remove.

Dear Sir/Mam

Thank you for getting back to us.

We are sending you a zipped file as an attachment with this mail.

Please save it on your Mac and then double click on it.

Once the file is uncompressed, double click on it again; the program will be removed automatically.

This should help.

Please do not hesitate to contact us, should you have further queries.

i guess they've cleaned up their act a little since then.

they now publish http://www.tuneupmymac.com/uninstall/ which says:

  1. Launch TuneupMyMac and click on Help > Uninstall TuneupMyMac option.
  2. A dialog box will appear asking your confirmation. Click on 'Yes' button to uninstall TuneupMyMac.
  3. For security reasons, you will be asked to enter your Mac user password. Enter your Mac user password and click on the OK button.

good luck being more careful what you install in the future 🙂🙂
