Q: Can the Thunderbolt Octopus cable be replaced?  I broke the cable.

I knocked my laptop off the table and it landed on the thunderbolt connector.  The cable will need to be replaced and I am hoping it is possible.

If the repair is too expensive, and you aren't using the Thunderbolt port on the back of the display, you could buy a Thunderbolt cable and connect the computer to the display's rear Thunderbolt port.

I am posting this in case anyone else has this problem going forward and stumbles on this post.

The answer is YES you can repair this.

You can buy this cable online through people on EBAY.

Used they sell for 25.00/new they sell for 60.00.

I opted to buy a new one because I did not want to have to do this more than once.

part description is Apple Thunderbolt Cable 27" Cinema Display 922-9941 A1407 MC914

BUT........The way Apple designed this assembly you have to take your 1200.00 Apple display apart, you cannot just "plug in" a new cable.

Once you disassemble the monitor by removing the glass this repair is fairly easy. Not for everyone.........that's probably why they designed it this way.

But when your monitor suddenly starts blacking out and no longer coming out of sleep mode, this repair can solve that problem.

This has been happening to a ton of people who own this display and yes, it happened to me.
