iPhone5 shuts down at 20%-30% battery since new IOS7 was installed

mine is shutting off at 96% battery life, multiple times a day

Another iPhone 5 user, in the exact same situation as Kait. My phone is just over a year old...there is absolutely NO reason my phone needs a new battery at a year old. Unless it's another design flaw?

Apple, what do you have to say? This is becoming a widespread problem.

I read, that someone recalibrated the battery. Does anyone know how to do this?

Same problem here. My iPhone 5 shuts down when battery is around 25%-30%. After a few minutes I can turn it on and battery still shows around 25%-30%. It happens again when it goes down to 12%-15% and again around 5%-8%...

- I've already drained the maximum amount of battery I could until I saw it showing 1%.

- I've reset the phone (home+on buttons for 10 secs).

- I've installed the App Battery to help cherging.

- I've charged the phone to 100% (full cycle).

Nothing works... What's the problem???

I've had the same problem ever since iOS7 was installed on my phone. Went to an Apple store today in Bristol and they told me I was 17 days out of warranty.

He ran a diagnostic on my phone and showed me it was at about 80% capacity which is unacceptable after 12 months of normal usage. It's £55 for a new battery or £209 for a replacement phone. He refused to even replace the battery until it had completely failed which again, is baffling. He stated that I should claim a replacement or repair under consumer law but this sounds like Apple passing the buck in my opinion. Had an HTC prior to this for nearly 3 years and had no issue with the battery at all.

Regretting my purchase now after almost £600 shelled out in total. What will Apple do to help?

I have the same issue after upgrading to iOS 7. I have just upgraded to 7.0.4, so hopefully, that will resolve the problem as stated in a separate post. My phone is also just over a year old and dies between 20 and 30% left. Apple's QoS has definitely "failed" of late.

Same problem here, and it seems to have started out of nowhere with IOS7 (actually seems worse with 7.0.4). My iphone 5 used to properly shut down when the battery was down to 1%. Now it shuts down at about 20-30%. I can't turn it back on, it shows the sign that I need to plug it in. When I plug it in, it shows the charging sign and says the battery is close to 0%. But as soon as it turns on a few seconds later, the battery is in the green at 20-30%. Super annoying.

I've got the same problem. It really annoys me. Will apple give us any respond or improvement on IOS????

Same here except mine has been shutting down more and more at 50%. Plus I will drop a charge by 10-20% with a simple task like texting!!!

Mine almost always shuts down around 20-25%. Yesterday it shut down at 30%. Really frustrating. The odd thing is, there have been a few times that I have run mine on 1% for while before it shuts off. I am finally getting around to doing the update to 7.0.4 today. If I see an improvement after updating I will update my post.

Started after last update to IOS7. Drains fast and shuts off with battery at 20-25%.

Use this phone for safety reasons on the ranch in bad winter weather, going to be out of luck when I get stuck and have no phone to summon assistance.

Do I need to get a Walmart phone for emergencies now???

If your iPhone's battery is acting up you need to determine if it's a software issue or a hardware/battery issue. To do that, after syncing your iPhone, erase/hard reset all data and settings from your iPhone to what it was from the factory as new. This can be found in Settings/General/Reset/Erase All Content and Settings. Then test it out for a day or two. If it's still acting up then it's likely a hardware issue and you will need to get your battery replaced. If your iPhone is now working properly after hard resetting it than it's most likely a software issue. This battery issue only started after upgrading to the new iOs7, so it is obviously related to the update not properly installing itself. What has worked for me and many others is to manually update to iOS 7.0.4 using the full downloaded version of the update which is about 1.32 Gigs.

But first you need to find out what model of iPhone you have, click here to determine if it's GSM or CDMA: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3939?viewlocale=en_US&locale=en_US

Then go here and scroll down to download the iOS 7.0.4 complete update for your device: http://www.downloadios7.org/download-ios-7-0-4-ipsw-file.html

Then scroll up on the download page and follow the instructions of updating your iPhone manually following the instructions below: "IPSW with iTunes"

And your done.

Problem solved.

I only posted this because it was a very frustrating problem that no one really seemed to figure out a solution for.

I have the i4 before updating to 7.0.4 my battery life was perfect. Then I noticed that one day after battery being 100% 3 hrs later was sitting at 30% - to test it I depleated the battery to almost 0. Charged my phone to 100% turn off cellular data made sure all apps were closed out nothing was running to drain battery after 3 hours my battery read 40%

Two restores later battery is working fine - first restore nothing waited a couple days figure meh another restore and so far doing good again..
