Q: iPhone5 shuts down at 20%-30% battery since new IOS7 was installed

Ever since I installed the new IOS 7 operating system the day it premiered, not only do I have battery issues in which it drains quickly (seems to be a common occurrence) but now if I am using the phone (app, imsg, etc) when it gets down to about 30%, sometimes 23% the phone completely shuts off as if it was at 0% battery life (I say that exact number because it's been at exactly 23% on a few occasions where the phone shut off). The icon pops up that looks like a drained battery with an indication to plug it in, and when I plug it in the phone turns itself on immediately and then works fine. I was told to reset it, hard reset it etc, all of which I tried and to no avail. I have spoken with someone from Apple and they are telling me I need a new battery. The phone is just over a year old (so of course, they won't cover the battery replacement even though the issue started about two weeks ago and it's now two weeks past it's 1 year warranty), and I highly doubt it's a coincidence that the battery is suddenly acting up after the new operating system update. Is anyone having this same issue? Helpful comments would be appreciated. Thanks :)

I have the i4 before updating to 7.0.4 my battery life was perfect. Then I noticed that one day after battery being 100% 3 hrs later was sitting at 30% - to test it I depleated the battery to almost 0. Charged my phone to 100% turn off cellular data made sure all apps were closed out nothing was running to drain battery after 3 hours my battery read 40%

Two restores later battery is working fine - first restore nothing waited a couple days figure meh another restore and so far doing good again..

Same problem; iPhone 5; iOS 7.0.4. Phone powers down at 20-30%; I press the power button and a dim plug and battery icon with a red bar shows up then the phone powers off. Very frustrating.

Same problem here. I feel it started around ios7 upgrade. I need to carry an external charger so I do not get stuck. What are we doing about this apple? We need to hear from you.

Same problem as everyone else. No batter problems at all until the iOS 7 update. Now I only get through 2/3rds of a day and when my batter hits the high 20's, the phone shuts down.

Apple, what are you doing about this? When will there be a fix?

I have identical problem. Since iOS7 update my phone randomly shuts down. When I plug it in it comes back with 20-30% (and one time 40%) battery left. It's gotten so bad I started carrying a battery booster pack around for emergencies.

I have exactly the same problem.  Cuts out regularly at 23% when I have an app running.  Extremely annoying, since my phone turns into a brick until I can plug it in!  Apple needs to fix this.

So what is everyone doing about this?  Has anyone gone to an apple store to discuss this issue with them?  Have they provided you advice?  New Batt, new build, etc?

    Anyone leaving apple?

I have been seeing it happen more and more.  Contract not up until Aug here.

I have the same issue. I have contacted Apple Support and have sent the device to them for reviewing. After a week, they returned back saying that the iPhone is fine and gave some advices to avoid like "Charging the battery correctly". The quality of the support is going down. Also, after seeing that Apple has just admitted there is a problem with this: http://mashable.com/2014/01/22/iphone-screen-of-death/?utm_cid=mash-com-Tw-apple -link

    Too bad...

Same issue here, also.  It seems like it acts fine more often than not, which means by the time I go to bed each night I might have anywhere from under 20% to over 40% battery left and it has not shut down that day.  The other day I even ran it all the way down to 0% before it shut off.

But once or twice a week it will shut off with 30% and once even over 40% left.  Last week it happened in Walmart and I was left with no shopping list.  Luckily I remembered all I needed.

For me it seems like this started when I installed 7.0.4.  I was either on 7.0 or 7.0.1 previously (not sure which) and I did not have this problem then.

I'll wait and see if 7.1 fixes it.  If not then I'll probably just pick up the $25 battery kit from Ifixit.

The fact that sometimes the battery goes all the way to zero says it's not a battery issue, but a iOS issue. I'm hoping 7.1 fixes it too, but I haven't read anything that even mentions this problem.

C'mon Apple! It's a known issue. Step up and fix it.

I've seen a couple of articles mentioning it, both posted within the last 24 hours.  That one above my post above is one, and also this one: http://gadgets.ndtv.com/mobiles/news/ios-71-update-to-fix-random-home-screen-cra sh-issue-474579

Maybe this is newly released information from Apple that 7.1 should fix this problem.

Google search "ios 7.1 crash" and you'll see even more articles all posted within the last 24 hours.

It says a "homescreen crash". Hopefully the means homescreen shutdown. I wouldn't get my hopes up! Is this happening to everyone when they are using cellular data? See my phone works fine all the way down to 1% on wifi. It's when I'm using cellular data where the battery meter goes crazy and I get premature shutdowns.

Yes and I did not have this problem on ios 6.1.
