Q: Mini DV to late 2009 Macbook?

How do I transfer video from the Sony HDR-HC3 HDV 1080i mini DV camcorder to my late 2009 MacBook? Although I have the OS X 10.8.4, this Mac has no Firewire and no Thunderbolt.

I do have a friend with a MacBook Pro. If I purchase a Belkin 6' FireWire Cable (4-pin/6-pin) would that work with a MacBook Pro and my camera? http://www.walmart.com/ip/Belkin-6-FireWire-Cable-4-pin-6-pin/3756912

Do I also need an adaptor for the camera to work with this cable?

Depends on whether the MBP has FW400 or FW800. If the latter, you either need a 4 pin to 9 pin cable or an adaptor to use with a 4 pin to 6 pin.

I didn't realize there were any Macs that had neither FW nor Tb. Presumably they assumed that anyone editing video on those machines would be using file-based media.
