Drafts disappearing from Apple Mail Drafts Folder

I am running Mac Mail, on Mountain Lion, using POP mail. I have saved several drafts in the Drafts folder, and when I went back to finalize them today, they had all been SENT. Has this happened to anyone? How long should they stay in the Drafts folder before being deleted or sent? Is there a time limit?
