Dropped Frames and Time Code Breaks.

I am using FCP 4. I am trying to capture footage from a Sony mini DV. Every time I try, either it sas there's a timecode break(which I don't understand) or that there's dropped frames. It drops the capturing process everytime it detects a dropped frame, even though I have made sure that that user preference is not selected. I am new to this, and I have no idea what to do. Could it be that I shot it in wide screen? Which is the easiest to select from the Capture/Input pop up menu. I am using firewire, and I have about 1.25 GB of ram. Please help!
