Q: How do I retrieve deleted photos from iCloud?

I recently created a new album for my holiday photos, then transferred pix from camera roll to the new album.  I then deleted pix from camera roll as I assumed they would be safe in the new album.  They were not.  The new album was now empty.  Backup hadn't occurred the night before as I had too much data to back up.  Backup hadn't occurred since before the new photos were taken.  I would really appreciate some help with this matter.  I'm absolutely gutted that I've lost my holiday photos.

Thanks.

I'm afraid your only option at this point would be to try using data recovery software (such as http://www.anysoftwaretools.com/iphone-data-recovery.html).  I have no experience with this and don't know how well it works.

Albums created from camera roll photos do not contain the actual photos, they only contain links to the photos in the camera roll.  Thus, when you deleted the camera roll photos, the albums were empty because the photos they linked to were no longer there.  If you did not back up your phone prior to deleting the photos they can't be restored unless data recovery software can still extract them from the phone.

Thank you so much for that explanation.  It makes sense to me now .  At least I know for future how it works!  I may give the recovery software a go if I'm feeling brave, and will let you know how sucessful it was.

You're welcome.  Good luck.  (Many programs like this will allow you to download a trial version for free, which will allow you to scan your phone to see if it can find your deleted photos before you have to buy it.)

Thank you for your nice help! I have rescued all my wanted data back!

In fact, last weekends, I also accidentally formatted my iPhone and lost all my stored data on the inner memory card.

But, fortunately, after reading many related threads and articles, I finally restored all my wanted photos and videos directly from the memory card with the help of some data recovery tools, like 4Card Recovery, iCare Data Recovery Free and Recuva, etc.

Thank you very much for your clues!!!!
