Hey everyone need some help here,I have a Canon PIXMA MP500 printer and I am trying to set it up for my OSX 10.8.5 but I haven't managed to do it.On the Canon web page they say it is not supported for OSX 10.8.Any suggestions???

I don't know if it works for you, but it is a start.
Canon did not release a driver for this model for 10.8. The last driver released was for 10.7, so you could see if you can install this driver. Note that this driver may not be signed, so Gatekeeper will block the installation. So you will need to Control-click on the installer and select Open from the pop-up menu to install the driver.
If the driver for 10.7 fails to install or does not work then you could install the Gutenprint v5.2.9 driver suite. The Canon MP500 is listed as a supported model.

So are you unable to add the MP500 as a printer? Or can you create the printer queue but it fails to print?
Also, is the printer connected to this Mac via USB cable or is it connected to some other computer/device?
My Mac does not recognise the printer at all.It is connected via USB but when I go to the Preferances to add the printer it is not there.
Well that sounds like a faulty USB cable. You can check it by opening System Information (Applications > Utilities) and select USB in the left column. The top right pane will show all the USB busses in the Mac and if the USB cable is okay, the printer should appear under one of the USB busses. Do you see it? If no, then try another USB cable.
Already tryied that but it didi not work.The printer is not shown on the Utilities>USB menu.
If the printer is not listed under one of the USB busses, and you have tried another USB cable, then you could have a fault with the printer. Do you have another computer that you can connect the printer and USB cable to?
No unfortunatelly I do not have an other computer to try that.The thing is that it was working fine a few days ago when I printed something.
If I manage to try the printer on an onther pc I will let you know what happens,If anything else comes to mind about this please let me know so I can try it.
The System Information > USB entry is going to be your best tool. Once you can get the printer appearing under one of the USB busses you will then be able to add the printer again.
If you haven't tried already, turn off the power to the printer, unplug the power cord and leave it off for a few minutes. Then plug the power cord back in and turn on the printer. Then check System Information > USB to see if the printer has re-appeared.
