restored iPhone5 from iCloud - "Cannot Get Mail" from gmail, but will from my 2 other accounts

My iPhone was replaced today due to battery issues. The backup from iCloud was successful. It is still updating my apps.

I cannot successully add my gmail exchange account to the mail app though. I have tried deleting the exchange account and re adding it in. The verification is successful, but when I update my mail it has a pop up that says "Cannot Get Mail" "The connection to the server failed"

any suggestions/reasons?

reset all settings

settings-general-reset-reset all settings

now reconnect to wifi

settings- wifi- click network name- enter password - join

if issue persist back up and restore as new via iTunes

Thanks for the response. lock screen and home page background wallpaper were deleted. Still no gmail exchange success. I will try a restore through iTunes when I get home.

Delete the email account in question then add it back using the correct settings.

Restoring as new should not be required to get an email account to work.

Hi, I had the same problem after backing up from my old phone.

I synced a couple of times without success. Then I jsut went into Settings: Maiil,Contacts, Calendars and turnes off the mail settings. I didn't DELETE and reinstate the accounts, just turned them off and back on in settings. (Hmmm, this is starting to sound like helpdesk advice:)

This was enought to remove the error message and 'unblock' the mail app.

It didn't restore my in-box though. I had a couple of emails that I was due to respond to, and had to do that from amother device.
