My ear buds just zapped me!

I was on my laptop, using the new apple ear buds that have the volume control on them, when I got shocked in my left ear. It left my ear numb for a few minutes, should I just toss the ear buds out? why did this happen?

I am not going to sue since my hearing isn't affected, as suggested by some people. No they were not wet
