My laptop wont recognise my Apple tv, and apple tv is broke. I have a usb / itunes symbol on my television. How do I fix this?

I have updated the Apple TV software via the on TV directions and Apple TV has stopped working. I now have the ITunes symbol and a USB cable picture on my tele???

I have tried plugging in a usb and connecting it to my laptop, and opening ITunes - this did nothing. It did not even recognise the Apple TV device, so I was not able to attempt to restore it.

I have the latest version of Apple TV.
