I have a 2006 mbp that in the last year or two exhibits sluggish and choppy streaming video playback (Netflix, YouTube, etc ) but doesn't seem to when playing local video files. Other devices on the wifi network do not experience this, so it's not the ISP or network. Was wondering what could be at issue & what ways to improve video performance?

1. System Preferences > Other/ Flash Player > Advanced > Delete All
Press the "Delete All" button
2. Install Adobe Flash Player.

Quit Safari.
Restart computer. Relaunch Safari.

Looking to readdress this problem as still having the same issues. Dealing with Adobe as suggested by dominic23 only provided minor improvements. Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated...
1. Safari > Preferences > Privacy
Press the button “ Remove All Website Data”.
2. Turn off Extensions, if any.
Safari > Preferences > Extensions
