nothing seems to be working! i need help!! 2009 macbook! dont have anything it came with obviously!

Question mark on startup means your Mac cannot find a system folder to boot from.
Startup your Mac while holding down the Option key. That should prompt the Startup Manager window where you can select the starutp disk then click Restart.
holding the option key doesnt do anything except makes the screen white with no folder and a black cursor apears but nothing else happens!!
Then try the help from the link I posted previously.
because you are getting the flashing folder w/ the question mark and the clicking sound, more than likely the HD is failing in your mac.
hopefully you have a backup of your data that's on it. regardless you can take it to apple store or service provider to have it looked at to see for sure what's going on and some service providers provide data recovery in case you don't have a backup. the following link tells how to find these close to you:
