Multiple devices on one Apple ID
I have my sons iPod and iPad on my Apple ID. I need to change that. I want him to have his own Apple ID - but I don't want him to lose the Apps he purchased under my Apple ID. Is this possible?

Yes. You can use media from more than one account on a one device. However note:
- Apps are locked to the account that purchased them.
- To update apps you have to sign into the account that purchased the apps. If you have apps that need updating purchased from more than one account you have to update them one at a time until the remaining apps were purchased from one account.
Also note the 90 day time period for changing accounts for some iCloud services
iTunes Store: Associating a device or computer to your Apple ID
Good to know! I just need step-by-step directions on what to do on each device to get it all corrected. Can anyone help me please?
you may find it easier for the child to use your appleid in itunes and app stores, so you can share purchases: and create him an id for icloud, imessage and facetime.
Peace, Clyde
That would work too - how do I do that? And would that solve the problem of my contacts showing up on his iPod and iPad?
Create a NEW account/ID for him using these instructions. Make sure you follow the instructions. Many do not and if you do not you will not get the None option. You must use an email address that you have not used with Apple before.
Creating an iTunes Store, App Store, iBookstore, and Mac App Store account without a credit card
Use the new ID on iPod but only for:
Settings>Messages>Send and Receive
Settings>FaceTime
and Settings>iCloud if you want him to have separate Contacts Calendar and some other things.
Continue to use the same/common Apple ID for Settings>iTunes and App stores so you can share purchases.
Will this work for both his iPad and iPod?
It will work iPot touch, iPhone or iPad.
So doing this will not remove any of his apps from his devices, correct? Because those are still associated with MY Apple ID in the app store. This will just create his own Apple ID for Facetime, Messaging, and his contacts, correct?
yes thats right. just create a new appleid at appleid.apple.com and sign out of icloud, imessage, and facetime. then sign back into all of these with the new id. That way itunes purchases not affected.
Peace, Clyde
Changing the ID anywhere on the iPod, even Settings>iTunes and App store will not remove any media (songs, apps videos) from the iPod,.
This did the trick! Thank you so much for your help everyone! đ
