Have replaced lithium battery on G5 ,and it still won't start -only relay click.Screen blank .What else can I try?

After being switched off /disconnected for 7weeks the G5 would not power up when I switched on .

There are relay clicks ,and mains light on both computer and display switches when pressed ,but no "powering up " fan sound .

Advice from this site got me to replace the 3.6 lithium battery ,which I did today .To no avail .

The symptoms remain the same ,clicks but no fan ,and display screen remains blank/black .

Help welcomed .

PowerMac, Mac OS X (10.5.8), logic pro 8 . G5 !.8 PC1-X with +

Try disconnecting power & all peripherals for an hour or two, hook power only back up & see if anything starts.

Thanks BD.Not clear what you mean by "hook power only back up " .? But will proceed .

I have previously glanced at resetting SMU/PMU ,and I seem to remember that it was taken for granted that there was a display (screen) working .If only !!

Some progress :after disconnecting all and waiting ,the computer powered up .Not quite as I remembered :now a very quiet start then like a very slow acceeration with increasing fan/motor noise to louder than before difficulties .

Connecting the display ,and switching that on had no result .The screen remained black/blank .After repeated attempts to switch on the display , the computer switched off -and would not immediately restart .It restarts after an interval .

Is it a correct assumption that if the display is black/blank ,then there can be no expected response from keyboard input ? I will try the force quit/restart/force shut down as recommended any way .

And then the resetting PMU procedure as detailed .

The keyboard may still work or not, the fans going full blast is normal if it doesn't load an OS to control them.

Sorry to say ,no joy .I have tried the kbd instruction/PMU push .After this ,the computer reverted to the click only condition when switched on .I disconnected overnight and tried again ,with the same failure to start past the relay click .

Is there anything else to try ? Again -thanks for help .

I do appreciate your input BD ;in my heart however I want to spend my time with music .I have looked a lot on line just now and I can see it's tricky to remove what's necessary to deal with the Psu .And I don't really know thats the problem .

I have asked on the Logic section "what is the least expensive used computer to run Logic pro 8 ?" .What would you say?
