Q: iCloud and Windows 8.1

I am using a desktop PC; was Windows 8 64 bit; upgraded this morning to Windows 8.1.

I am using Microsoft Office 2010; my contacts, tasks and calendars are in iCloud.

Now when I am in Outlook, it will not open contacts, calendar or tasks .. It tells me: The set of folders cannot be opened. The information store could not be opened.

I tried re-installing iCloud and I get: There si a problem with this windows installer package. A DLL required for this install to complete could not be run.

I had the exact same problem. I solved it by closing Outlook, opening the iCloud Control Panel, and unchecking the "Mail, Contacts, Calendars, and Tasks" box, removing the Outlook linkage. The iCould Control Panel told me that it was not configured for Outlook at this time, so I rechecked the box and re-established the linkage. I re-opened Outlook and all was well.

Nor for me.  The Icloud folders show in Outlook 2010.  The Icloud refresh icon is missing.  The error message is as you say:  "The set of folders cannot be opened. The information store could not be opened."  Using the Icloud Control Panel to "link" or "unlink" doesn't seem to have any effect.  Ideas?

Got some relief.  I uninstalled the Icloud Control Panel completely.  Restarted Windows 8.1 computer.  Re-installed and it appears to have started to work.  A thought.

That worked for me too. Unfortunately, I lost a bunch of Outlook contacts (not iCloud) in the process.Thank you very much.

    Hi,

I'd upgraded from window 8 (64bit) to window 8.1 (64bit), had the same problem with outlook 2010.

As suggested, I'd uninstalled icloud ... it works!

However, I'm not able to reinstall icloud (error:  HRESULT:0x80073715)

    Please help .....

Hi I have had the same problem BUT even thought I have repeatedly removed and reinstalled iCloud it is still not working using Office 365 I have it set up so iCloud (updates all my calendar and other facilities in Office) and up until I had the problem with the 8.1 update it worked fine BUT since I have now (with the help of Microsoft with a fix for removing and then reinstalling Office 365) while all the MIcrosoft programs like Word and Outlook are working OK  I have not been able to get my other calendars and contact via Apple iCloud (it says "the set of folders cannot be opened.  The information store could not be opened") and the iCloud icon that use to be on the top of the Outlook screen is not there - add to Evernote 4 is but not iCloud.  I have removed iCLoud program and reinstalled it including closing down Outlook etc and rebooted the computer a number of times but no luck - any ideas please as it is very important I get my calendar and contact (People) back.  Many thanks

I am running Outlook 2010, was worinkg fine with Icloud sync until I upgraded from Windows 8 to 8.1.  I have unistalled icloud many times, deleted all .pst, .ost files related to @me.com, repaired Office 2010, etc, etc.  I am using the latest Icloud Control Panel version.  I have set up the @me account in Outlook, with proper connections.  I can send and receive email via @me.com but I CANNOT SYNC with control panel.  I get message that I do not have default profile in Outlook.  I am using two other IMAP accounts from Comcast in outlook and one of those is default.  Nothing is working since 8.1 upgrade for calendar or contacts.  My IPAD, Android phone, and laptop running Windows 7 is still syncing. HELP!!!

Experienced a similar issue when upgrading from Win7 to Win8. I again am seeing it with the upgrade from Win8 to 8.1.

Last time it required an update to iCloud Control Panel for Windows to correct. I suspect this is again the solution. Hopefully Apple will provide a compatible version ASAP.

I'm having the same problem which started after update to 8.1 on Windows on Surface Pro. After uninstalling iCloud got warning when attempting to empty Desktop Recycle Bin. "Are you sure you want to permanently delete this folder." Found a folder with.aplzod file extention inside. Think I'll wait a few days and see what developes before I try and solve again. And I had just gotten all my shared calendars working just like I wanted! ;(

I too had the same problem after the Windows 8.1 "update."  I uninstalled the iCloud plugin, rebooted, reinstalled the plugin and all was then fine. Unfortunately, after a reboot and relaunch of Outlook, the plugin refused to load and I was back to square one. I sure wish I wasn't forced to use Windows for my business. :-/

" The set of folders cannot be opened. The information store could not be opened."

My hope Apple will fix this problem soon.........

This is the exact problem I am having - Outlook 365 worked great with iCloud and Win 8....but version Win 8.1 and iCloud doesn't want to play together.  Appears that this is an Apple problem...

APPLE, WE NEED HELP!!!  SOONER RATHER THAN LATER PLEASE!!!
