Unable to Log into FileVault user account.

I'm randomly getting the error "unable to log into FileValult user account" after I enter my password. I was trying to free up some disk space, and every since I've been getting that error. I've done some research and can find others with the same issue, but cannot recreate any of the other solutions. I only have one account set up and do not have the master password since I purchased my computer used. I can get to the root menu and have the installation disks. Ran Repair permissions. Any help would be appreciated!

I was just able to login today to respond. I did the disk repair before the permissions. How would I create a new admin account without being able to login?

Re: your first link. I only have one account. So I would need to create another one?

Re: second link. I cannot log into the user account to see system preferences.

Thanks! I was able to create a new login which is great since I can use most of my programs. I was also able to change the password on the origional account, but receiving the same error message. I tried following the other links posted with no luck. Is there anyway to get back into the old account?

"unable to log into FileValult user account"

You may not change a password on a filevault account. You must turn filevault off before changing the password. The password is your filevault encryption key.

Once you empty the trash can, the system re-uses the empty space. You need to have stopped using the machine for best results.

To recover files, you need to get an external firewire drive. You should get one for backup anyway.

Did you find the sparseimage file? You should have free space equal or more to the filesize.

Did you double click on the sparseimage file to see if it would mount? Will have to mess with the permissions.

perhaps sudo open file_name would work?

some of these files are hidden. best to see all files.

Macintosh-HD -> Applications -> Utilities -> Terminal

# Show hidden files & folders in finder

# Just copy the the line starting with defaults into the terminal. Press return to run.

defaults write com.apple.finder AppleShowAllFiles TRUE ;killall Finder

# Normal display. Hide hidden files & folders in finder

# Just copy the the line starting with defaults into the terminal

defaults write com.apple.finder AppleShowAllFiles FALSE ;killall Finder

The finder comes right back.
