Blue ink stain near trackpad

When opening my Macbook this morning I discovered several blue ink marks (even though I haven't used blue ink in several days?) around the trackpad area. I've tried everything I could get my hands on, including ethanol without it moving. I'm really worried in 3-4 months time I'm going to have a Macbook which is covered in stains.

Why is the area so porous? I haven't had any yellow discolouration and (Macbook is week 21), do the Macbooks which have the "correct/fixed" surface still so prone to easily absorbing ink from your hands?

Does anyone have any suggestions for tackling this?

On an unrelated question, do the newer Macbooks have a significantly more rounded corners? Really thinking I might have to sell this machine due to a few things which I can't ignore, despite it being the best computer I've have in so many other respects.

We have encountered exactly the same problem with our White MacBook just this morning.

The MacBook was 'Shut Down' and it's lid closed yesterday without being left on charge. On getting to work this morning and opening the lid, I have found three areas of dark-blue staining on the lower right-hand side of the case, running along the edge of the casing and along the right hand side of the casing.

I've contacted Apple regarding this and await their reply.

After a handful of calls to Apple Care UK, we were given a Case ID to get the upper casing changed.

The local Apple Service Provider was not even aware of the discoloration issue, but was surprised to see that they had taken an order of the replacement cases in.

It sounds like Apple are more aware of this issue than they appear to be letting on.

I also had exactly the same problem. Woke up in the morning and there was a big ink like stain on the right of the trackpad!

I called Applecare and they instantly said they would replace it for me. However, it get's wierder...

The day they were sending the box i was working in the garden, in bright sunlight, came inside and the stain was gone!!!

Now there is a hardly noticable creamy mark in it's place, but now i don't know what to do. I can't send it back as the mark is now so unnoticable that they probably won't see it.

Anyway, all very wierd.

Ok, this is becoming very weird....

As I posted earlier in the week, we had the blue staining issue and contacted AppleCare and have booked it in for a change of the uppercase at our local Apple Server Provider.

BUT, like tetmin, I took the laptop(sorry NoteBook) home and did some work from my back garden and just like tetmin, noticed the next day that the blue staining had faded from a dark (and noticeable) blue, to an incredibly faint colour. In some areas it has completely gone. Ironically, conscious of the staining issue, and the heat problems, I made sure the laptop was never in direct contact with the sun.

I can only assume that the blue staining will return at some point and when it does its likely that the English weather won’t be so favourable next time round. I intend to explain this to the Apple Service Provider and see what they have to say.

Exactly, they'll think i'm nuts if i send this Macbook back. I'll give them a call i think and explain what happened so they know what's going on.

Thing is, i wanted to send it back for the mooing, but they wouldn't take it, so the blue stain was a good excuse. Oh well.

Let's just hope it comes back i guess.

Also, does anyone else think that the stained and now faded area feels a little rougher to the touch?

I too discovered what appeared to be several small blue ink stains to the right of my trackpad.

I had not used any ink pens and had been out, having closed my MacBook and found them when I came back!

I took it into the nearest Apple Store (although I purchased the MacBook from John Lewis) - they were very insistent that it was ink that I had somehow put there and tried to suggest that the marks looked like repeated patterns from skin (hand put down in different places on the MacBook!).

I even printed out the 1st two posts (which were all that were here then) to show them - dismissed these as "well, only a couple of people have said that...and you shouldn't believe everything you read..."!!!!!!!

I'm interested by the comments regarding the ink stains fading in the sunlight and maybe I'll try to test this out with mine!! Think I'll take a couple of photographs first so that I have some evidence, just in case it does work!!

Anyway, I have at least logged it with Apple - I was asking about this "exchange within 14 days" business which appears to be what is happening with the other discoloration - in the US. I was told I'd have to go back to John Lewis about that as that is where I purchased it from. It's such a *** though, I've just got everything set up - software loaded - plus I've upgraded the RAM (which is shockingly minimal at 512MB and a vast improvement at 2GB!!...) - so I guess I'd have to go through an exchange with the engineers copying all my data across - and who knows if I were to have the same problems again??!!

BTW, I also asked at the Apple Store about how HOT the MacBook gets - they reckoned it was perfectly OK (they knew that they get very hot....). I downloaded CoreDuoTemp and it's running at about 60 degrees, which they say is fine! (couldn't use it on your laptop though!....far too HOT!!!...)

Anyway, will post any updates following my trials...

MacBook, White, 1.8GHz, 2GB Ram Mac OS X (10.4.7) ...just switched from PC to MAC....and so far, so good!!

The yellow marks are the well known discoloration which Apple are replacing Macbooks for, and have apparently fixed on the new Macbooks coming out of the factories. See http://stainedbook.info for more details.

The blue marking seems to be a new phenomenon. When i called Apple aout it they seemed quite interested and put me through to someone fairly high up who could actually speak english. But i'd wait a few days and see if it fades away.
