I have tried turning my iPad on and off (3 times!!!), I have tried cleaning the headphone thing (where it's plugged in), and I have tried plugging in and unplugging my headphones. Please help me I am frustrated

If you have no sound in any app whatsoever without using headphones, try resetting the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time until the Apple logo appears on the screen.
If you still have sound in the music app without using headphones, system sounds are muted.
System sounds can be muted and controlled two different ways. The screen lock rotation can be controlled in the same manner as well.
Settings>General>Use Side Switch to: Mute System sounds. If this option is selected, the switch on the side of the iPad above the volume rocker will mute system sounds.
If you choose Lock Screen Rotation, then the switch locks the screen. If the screen is locked, you will see a lock icon in the upper right corner next to the battery indicator gauge.
If you have the side switch set to lock screen rotation then the system sound control is in the control center. Swipe up from the bottom of the screen to get to control center . Tap on the bell icon and system sounds will return.
If you have the side switch set to mute system sounds, then the screen lock can be accessed in the same manner as described above.

You can also try cleaning the dock connector opening with a soft brush. Sometimes dirt or debris in the opening can cause sound problems.
I Did a combination of a Bluetooth connection and the pluged in thing and it worked-thank God! I was testing my waterproof case by armor-x I have an iPad mini 1st generation and the charging port popped open and it flooded-I waited for the port to dry though i didn't want to get electrocuted!
I Put headphones back in and removed them again. Sound came back. I did go to settings and switched the sound lock setting to off too but when I tried afterwards it still said headphones on volume display. Then I put headphones back in and removed them, it worked after that. I guess I will go back to settings, sound, and switch sound lock back on.
I have the newest iPad. I tried all of this and nothing worked. After many hours of frustration I tried the following and now I have sound! In settings search for "speaker" then click on Call Audio Routing, then checked Speaker. It was on Automatic before. I now have sound!!
OMGU I found a great way to do it!!! 😁 It's similar to the bin one, but instead you use a needle! It's really thin, so it can get anything out of the headphone jack that can be causing your problem! It tried it and it worked! ( On my iPad Mini 😕 ) Hope it helps for anyone else!

If your volume icon that appears when you push volume buttons up/down indicates you have headphones in when you don't, this is the perfect solution.

I Have an ipad air and it also thinks I have headphones plugged in I tried everything resetting cleaning the whole side switch and nothing is working what do I do!?
I had the same thing happened with my head trying to being stuck on I used a Q-tip and cleaned the opening now my phone works fine

This worked for me today. Connect your iPad to a bluetooth player, play some music. Pause the music, tap the square with the arrow that points up and choose iPad. Good luck.
