Itunes crashes under windows 8.1

This is a new computer so I never had a chance to try itunes under windows 8. However when I installed it for windows 8.1 it initially seemed to work until I tried to log in to my account. Since then it's been crashing. Re-install after re-install it seems to keep crashing as soon as I open it up.

Has anyone else had this problem? This is the latest itunes, by the way.

Thanks!

QuickTime for Windows hasn't been a component of iTunes for some time, so it isn't that surprising if you don't have a copy of that particular file.

For general advice see Troubleshooting issues with iTunes for Windows updates.

The steps in the second box are a guide to removing everything related to iTunes and then rebuilding it which is often a good starting point unless the symptoms indicate a more specific approach. When reinstalling it may help to right-click on the setup file and use Run as administrator. It may also help to temporarily disable any non-Microsoft anti-virus.

Review the other boxes and the list of support documents further down the page in case one of them applies.

The further information area has direct links to the current and recent builds in case you have problems downloading, or want to revert to an older version if the current one won't work properly for you at the moment.

Your library and device backups should be unaffected by these steps but there are links to backup and recovery advice should it be needed.

Found the problem. I considered the fact (not having actually tried Itunes in windows8) that it could be a windows 8 problem exclusively.

I found this...

Resolved!

After contacting Apple, I received a reply from their engineers:

Copy QTMovieWin.dll from: C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Apple\Apple Application Support

to: C:\Program Files (x86)\iTunes

And that did the trick.

Thanks!

How exactly do you implement this fix? Where do you copy from / paste to QTMovieWin.dll. I'm not very tech saavy and have found this suggestion multiple times, but I have not seen a place where they give you specific directions to carry this out. (I'm running the newest update of itunes and Windows 8.1. My Iitunes store doesn't work.)

Thanks
