How to transfer music from one device to another?

I am confused as to how I go about trnasferring all music and purchased items from my iPhone to a new iPod classic, as my phone currently has no space to store any more music. Would someone be able to provide me with a step by step guide I can follow? iTunes totally confuses me and do not want to loose all my content from iTunes!
