iPod AV cable audio out not working

I have a 30g ipod Video and bought a Apple AV cable to connect to my LCD TV. When I connect, I get good video but absolutely NO sound. Even movies downloaded from iTunes website does not work. I tried using another AV cable (switching red and yellow) and have the same problem. However, listening to these movies thru earphones is just fine. Is this a problem with the iPod? Any suggestions/solutions?

Thanks in advance

Same problem here. I just bought an 80G Video iPod. I have the AV cable from apple and a universal dock. Connecting from iPod headphone jack to the TV gives terrible sound, too low and you have to turn it up so loud you hear tons of static. Connecting through the dock is no better. Ironically, in my informal tests it seems to me that the volume of the signal coming out of the dock's headphone is lower than than when coming directly out of the iPod! (the dock is plugged into the wall).

Plugging the audio out into a stereo works a little better, but it's impractial when doing movies if the video line in is not close enough to the stereo line in.

Do the 3rd party A/V docks work any better?

You were doing alright until you said you switch cables Red and Yellow.. Mistake.
If your cables are Apple or IPOD compatible then read the following the advice I gave to another post.
__________
First make sure that your Video/output cables are compatible with the IPOD.
Then make sure you IPOD have the correct Video setting output.
TV= ON; Signal = NTSC and if your using HDTV set use Widescreen is ON.; Off will should work as well.

When you connect to TV make sure the Color Cable connection are correct.
Yellow is Video has to connect to Yellow; it’s not optional!
Then Match your Audio (left) White and (Right) Red cables

Check your IPOD Video setting!

Make sure the Video setting equals TV output ON.
The output should work like any other standard Video
and Audio circuit.

Then configure TV set for IPOD Input.

I started experiencing exactly the same problem after updating my 60GB iPod that I bought in June to 1.2. My iPod played audio perfectly fine through the TV, until this update, and then it stopped after the update (I can faintly hear it if a crank the TV volume).

The other iPod in the house, also a 60GB, bought in July, played fine before 1.2 and now won't play audio either after updating to 1.2.

I think this is a bug introduced by the 1.2 update -- I changed no configuration on my TV, the only change was the iPod software version.

I'm disappointed, as the main reason I purchased a video model was so I could watch them on my TV, so I feel like Apple has not delivered.

ah, i see, you mean just setting the tv to use the external input. I can do that, the problem is getting the audio to be audible w/o having to turn the iPod all the way up to full blast and the TV volume up to full.

I still think the iPod line-out is weak. I'm thinking about buying one of those fancy 3rd party AV docks, in the hopes that they boost the signal. Does anybody know about this? Do any 3rd party docks amplify the signal any??

I have the same problem and I have the DLO dock. It was working fine before. I think the person below who thinks it's a bug in the new Apple SW for the ipod is correct. I have all cables hooked up properly. The video settings to TV out and my tv is set to the correct spot it's plugged into. If it IS a bug, how do we get Apple to acknowledge and fix it?
