Logic Pro X does not detect Motu Ultralite mk3

Hi there.

I tried to connect the Motu Ultralite mk3 soundcard to my new Logic Pro X App I got a month ago using the latest Motu audio setup driver. I changed to OS X 10.8.5 lately as well.

The Motu soundcard is neither detected by my mac's audio preferences nor can it be selected in the Logic Pro X audio preferences below the coreaudio section.

I just downloaded the Ultralite Firmware Updater but when I try to open it tells me »The device is not detected. Confirm that it is connected to the computer by USB. Press and hold Page knob, and then turn it on to switch it to the firmware update mode.«

1. The Motu Ultralite mk3 has not got a USB Slot it uses Firewire. And it is connected.

2. When I do it the way it told me »ULmk3 Bootloader v1.00 appears« on the device's screen but nothing happens either.

I got no clue what to do. Could it be that it does not work because I am using an adaptor, Firewire 400 to Firewire 800?

I am using Mac 2.26 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo, 2 GB 1067 MHz DDR3, OS X 10.8.5

If anybody would have a clue, that's be great.

Thx.

M.

Okay.. a quick explanation of what is going on.....

The Ultralite Mk3 Hybrid DOES have a USB2 slot.. to connect to the Mac for Firmware updates.... as well as using it for connecting to a Mac or PC for Audio use.

However, it also has a FW400 port too.. and you should use that be default for actual audio iuse.. if you can as it is much more efficient..

But you must use the USB2 port to update it's firmware....

Now having said that... I believe you may have the earlier Mk3 that is not the Hybrid version.. and so does not have a USB2 port on it.. which would explain a few things...

You are using the correct method to update it... so the possible problems are either your MK3 is having a problem connecting via it's FW400 port, you have a bad FW400 cable... or your FW800 port is having issues... or you are trying to use the update for the MK3 hybrid....

I have an even more annoying problem. I just picked up a LaunchKey mini. I am using a MOTU UltraLite mk3 Hybrid and Logic Pro X 10.0.0.2. I am getting a really annoying cyclic noise just in Logic. Live, Garageband and my other DAWs don't have this issue. If I turn off the MOTU the sound disappears but of course I lose the MOTU which is unacceptable. Logic also fails to recognize the Launchkey mini on start up and says it's not connected, but it works. Everything was working fine until I added a software instrument (Native Instruments after I had updated my libraries) and then this annoying behavior started. I've reinstalled, restarted, etc., etc. Nothing gets rid of this annoying sound. Kind of like It's All About Bob, it's always there. Any ideas??

THANKS!!

I have a Launchkey 61 and a Hybrid connected to my Mac via FW and I do not have this issue with cyclic noise with Logic...

A client of mine reported the cyclic noise issue however when he connected his Launchkey 61 to a Hybrid when using the Hybrid's USB port but not when he used the FW port instead... and he had the same issue with both Logic and DP.. so i don't think it's a Logic specific issue.

However, I get the cyclic noise when the Launchkey is connected directly to an iPad but... turning off the inControl stuff when not using one of Novation's apps.... such as Nave for example...removes the noise so i suspect it has something to do with the implementation code for inControl...

As I suggested to my client, a 'call' to Novation seems the next best step to take...
