Oct 19, 2013 4:51 PM in response to Scrillstonby Carolyn Samit,Sounds like you need to upgarde your Mac OS X in order to run the latest version of iTunes in order to sync an iOS device.
Which OS X is currently installed ?
Click the Apple () menu top left in your screen. From the drop down menu click About This Mac. The version is noted there.
Updating iOS software is not a memory issue. It's a storage issue.

Oct 19, 2013 4:52 PM in response to Scrillstonby BGreg,You haven't provided any details for anyone to help you. If you click on the apple to the left of the menu bar, and then click on 'about this mac', what does that tell you for the amount of installed memory, as well as the processor?
Are you looking at the requirements for OS X Mountain Lion?

Oct 19, 2013 5:32 PM in response to Scrillstonby MichelPM,Your iMac is either a 2007 or 2008 iMac model.
Both model years can take a total of 6 GBs of RAM.
I advise installing the entire 6 GBs of RAM.
Correct and reliable Mac RAM can be purchased from online Mac RAM sources Crucial memory or OWC (macsales.com).
OWC has the 6 GB RAM kit. You just need to use their website tool to determine what year and model ID your iMac is.

RAM is user installable and very easy for a newbie or novice Mac user to install.
Good Luck!
