Hi. I just bought a Powerbook 3500 with a 250MHz processor, a 7Gig Hard drive, a 20X cd drive, an AC adapter, a bookendz docking station, and 64MB of ram for $26.00 + $20.00 shipping. Did I pay to much for this machine?
Also, I have a few questions.
the battery is dead, where can i get a new one for cheap?
does it have an ethernet port, or just 56k?
and what kind of ram does it use? i cant settle for 64MB.
Power Mac G3,
Mac OS X (10.3.6),
300MHz, 256MB Ram
You did not pay too much, you got too much. At least 100 too much. You specified 3500. Do you mean you got a PowerBook 3400? The specs for that model are here:
The 10BaseT Ethernet port is listed as optional on the /180 model, standard on the rest.
You can't get a new battery for cheap. Any battery made by Apple is now quite old. You may be able to get a serviceable used battery for cheap. You will have to shop hard for aftermarket RAM and batteries.
Is the 64 MB of RAM total, or 64 + the 32 MB that is soldered on? Anyway, everything over 32 MB is on a single daughterboard placed under the keyboard. You can get daughterboards in 32 MB, 64MB and 128 MB. 128 is the biggest giving you 160 MB total.
Also, you can swap most parts with a PowerBook 3400, but not memory. You have to get memory specific to the 3500/Kanga. (I found out the hard way.)
I found eBay was much cheaper than sites that sell the daughterboards oughtright. YMMV
It does have an ethernet port. You can plug either a phone line or an ethernet cable into the jack in te back. There is even a little adapter that you can get that allows you to have both phone and ethernet plugged in at once.
