I CAN'T DOWNLOAD imovie for my mackbook air

You need OSX 10.7.4 or later to download iMovie from the app store. You will have to wait until you update your machine.

To clarify both the above comments, going from OS X 10.6.8 to OS X 10.7 (or the current 10.8.5) is not really an update. It is actually an upgrade. The difference is updates are free, while upgrades are not.

If you choose to go to OS X 10.7 (or 10.8), you will have to purchase it.

Actually, from your first post above, I thought you came to the same conclusion since you said he would have to "update" to 10.7.4 - you knew there was some earlier version currently running.

Well, usually snow leopard comes with the 'bundled software' disk; maybe someone gave yan the machine w/o the disk(s) – or flash drive <-------------- on that point i'm not sure because my first MBA was just this past August and there is no more flash drive installer that comes with the MBA (if there ever was one). So I was thinking, for some strange reason, he was at least running an earlier version of Lion and could not update his machine for whatever reason. So he would have to upgrade to Mountain Lion, or wait for Mavericks (if his machine can upgrade to that)

Next time I will slow down, and read the post more carefully for all the given information.

imovie is an application already in your computer. to get to it: click on the first icon (finder), that looks like a face, on the left side of the dock. now click applications in the window on the left. in the window on the right you'll now see the star-shaped imovie icon. double click it to bring up the imovie screen, ready for use.
