migration assistant

On my third time trying to get Migration Assistant to work! trying to us it to move all info from a MacBook OSX Version 10.5.8 to a new MacBook Pro 2.66GHz/8GB/256GB, and it simply stalls everytime a 30min, I am using the Thunderbolt to Ethernet cord and all seems to work until it Stalls!!!! Such a simple task one would think but no go, Please help.....
