How to locally sync an iPhone with OS X Mavericks? iCloud is NOT an option.

I read that OS X Mavericks will no longer allow me to use iTunes to sync my iPhone to a local system but makes iCloud mandatory? Is that correct?

iCloud is not a valid option for me since I have no control about my data there, I need to keep all my data (contacts, calendar...) on a system under my control and so far iTunes allowed me to do that which was one of the reasons I didn't even consider Android or Windows Phone.

OS X Mountain Lion (10.8.5)

I hate not having my data local and localey sync'able and so I use SyncMate or OSX server (my prefence if for this) and I don't think it was a good move for Apple to have removed the USB sync option.

BUT what do you think the "i" in iMac, iPhone, iPod and iPad means? I read somewhere, 'internet' and so it's not supprizing that Apple want to have all data in the iCloud.

If this is not the case I am shoure some one will put me right. LOL

Csound, sorry, I realized I didn't answer your question.

The irony of course being that a piece of Microsoft software now supports a feature for my iPhone that Apple's own OS X does not(!).

OSX fully supports Contact/Calendar 'sync' using any of dozens of services, almost all of which require Internet access, but there are several that don't.

How do you use Microsoft Exchange, is it a local connection? or are you connected to the Exchange server over a network.

What exactly is your objection to using online services?

You have found alternative methods to use it seems, what is the issue now?

Why do you think evey thing I post has to be an "issue". I was making a comment on some of the posts here that suggest that Apple did not warn us that the local sync services would not be included in OSX Mavericks. I was trying to say then the "i" in the name of Apple products might be the warning that this would happen.

Why do I think every post must be over an issue?

Because

This is a tech support forum, not a chat room.

But, as you have no technical issues to deal with I have no advice for you.

I also have no interest in speculating what the i stands for, one guess is as bad as another.
