How to locally sync an iPhone with OS X Mavericks? iCloud is NOT an option.

I read that OS X Mavericks will no longer allow me to use iTunes to sync my iPhone to a local system but makes iCloud mandatory? Is that correct?

iCloud is not a valid option for me since I have no control about my data there, I need to keep all my data (contacts, calendar...) on a system under my control and so far iTunes allowed me to do that which was one of the reasons I didn't even consider Android or Windows Phone.

OS X Mountain Lion (10.8.5)

Who doesn't do what?

You mean the police? I never said they did do that.

Since you have nothing to hide, it's okay of they police peruse through your iCloud information?

You seemed to think that the only people who should have a problem with the police getting info from iCloud are those with something to hide.

Slippery slope and all that...

A. They don't do that in my country Chris

May pay to practice what you preech, Chris. Your creative editing is making you look less relevant than we know you are.

Stop with the hypocritical pontificating. If you don't like what's going on take your business elsewhere. It's as simple as that. All this simplistic moralizing and blathering about your privacy and choice in an increasingly homogenous, public, non-private society is just hot air. The NSA probably already knows more about you than iCloud ever will. If they can spy on the Chancellor of Germany you are easy pick'ins. And there's NOTHING you can do about it.

That would not be nice since I have bought many Apple products hoping to use them. Yes, my choice is to through them away because Apple changes their policies just like that…

Again, thanks God for SyncMate that is giving me choice to keep my investments. Im sure they will not require you to log into iCloud before you can locally sync, unless Apple suddenly decides not to let you to unlock your iPad and iPhone until you first sync with iCloud and then you can use localy syncing.

OK - didn´t look in this over-trolled thread since weeks.

My solution is owncloud on my own server. Works cool. Just one thing - the contact doesn´t work well with the groups. But it doesn´t matter to me, I just want a safe and own controlled sync from my mac to my iphone. It´s not my first choice because my data lay on an internet server but hey - I have to work!

For having the trouble and to try all the solutions I´m really in a bad mood with apple. I use them since many MANY years but this political uncorrect behavior to push me in the icloud is inacceptable.

Again - it´s a shame of the idea of freedom of decision that works in the times of Steve Jobs.

I am not sure that the next phone will be an iPhone. Found out that a sync via Kies.app works with Samsung so could be I am out.

I can´t use what I prefer. I prefer local sync, means USB or WLAN.

Local sync alternatives have been posted in this thread numerous times, use one of them.

'I can't have what I want' is a local issue, when 'enough' people complain to Apple it becomes 'we can't have what we want', and when the we becomes substantial there may be change.

you said it 1000 times in the thread

There are only 3300 or so posts, most of them not mine, I think that you are exaggerating.

Thanks echolon and peter_watt.

I didn´t heard that and I didn´t read the thread because some guys want just wast our time... I just want to tell that owncloud is very simple to use... in the last version they shows the url to contacts and calendar that you need to put in your mac and ios and - done! I was ready in some minutes.

But I keep my fingers crossed for 10.9.3 and the return of the local sync!

You call it 'over-trolled' and then reignite the thread by coming back here, offering absolutely nothing new and not even reading any additions to the thread, such as the rumored return of the feature in beta updates with associated links?????

That, tekknosaurus, is trolling.
