How to locally sync an iPhone with OS X Mavericks? iCloud is NOT an option.

I read that OS X Mavericks will no longer allow me to use iTunes to sync my iPhone to a local system but makes iCloud mandatory? Is that correct?

iCloud is not a valid option for me since I have no control about my data there, I need to keep all my data (contacts, calendar...) on a system under my control and so far iTunes allowed me to do that which was one of the reasons I didn't even consider Android or Windows Phone.

Like many others here I discovered the hard way that local sync of calendar, contacts and other data between iOS and OS X devices had been silently removed by Apple.

It's as if I'd been told: "do you still want to sync your iMac with your iDevice(s)? Just give us all your data, we'll do the rest"

I find that forcing users to store private data on systems totally out of their control is unacceptable, especially when such users don't live in the US (I'm an EU citizen) and are even less protected than US citizens by the applicable law.

Hope Apple will soon be releasing OS X and iTunes updates that reinstate the old syncing mechanism, showing their respect for those users who don't want to store their data in iCloud.

A question. Once the local sync functionality returns, I'm wondering if I'll still have a problem -- my calendar, contacts, notes, etc. exist only on my iPhone. Will I be able to instruct iTunes to pull the data from the iPhone and move it to iTunes/respective iMac apps? As I recall, a sync will erase data from the device in favor of what's already in iTunes (in this case, nothing, effectively deleting all my data.)

Ok. Werid issue when connecting to my iphone 5/5s 7.0.6

10.8.5 / itunes 11.2 - see the groups

10.9.3 / itunes 11.2 - don't see the groups

troubleshooting: that didn't work

- created new user account

- repaired permissions

- install the 10.9.3 combo update

- rebooted

anyone having the same issue?

Guess apple police doesn't allow to talk about the modified operating systems not being suppoted with this new version of 10.9.3 and 7.0.6 modified os with local sync. Since that specific word resulted in my deleted post.

big brother. control the information and keep the masses unformed is the forum policy. beautiful.

I'm pretty sure it's nothing to do with you running an old iPhone OS. There seem to be reports of it being but and miss. Most report that it's a combo of 10.9.3 and iTunes 11.2 and having Find My Mac enabled.

Some here will undoubtedly call it a feature.

I have the latest releases but haven't yet installed. I'm not happy with the new permissions discrepancies yet. (Users folder has read and write permissions for everybody it seems). I may wait for guidance from Apple or some more knowledgeable folk.
