How to locally sync an iPhone with OS X Mavericks? iCloud is NOT an option.

I read that OS X Mavericks will no longer allow me to use iTunes to sync my iPhone to a local system but makes iCloud mandatory? Is that correct?

iCloud is not a valid option for me since I have no control about my data there, I need to keep all my data (contacts, calendar...) on a system under my control and so far iTunes allowed me to do that which was one of the reasons I didn't even consider Android or Windows Phone.

OS X Mountain Lion (10.8.5)

So you must have signed into iCloud then.

No.

I can't believe you're still here whining and making assumptions and comments about something that doesn't bother you.

Please note the below text carefully.

I was one of the hold outs that stayed on ML and didn't use iCloud for anything but email. The latest upgrade is when I came across. I'll summarise in case I've made it ambiguous;

I did not previously upgrade to 10.9 as I don't like any of the iCloud features except mail, (and as of today Reminders). I therefore don't use them. I don't have it switched on for any of my Apple devices.

Your Mac works perfectly aways has done and you love iCloud. Bully for you. If it pleases you there is no need to comment further. You're probably just going to turn it into another one of your ridiculous crusades where you start quoting the TOU over and over.

Please prove me wrong on this.

The username and password are already in the system. Go to the Internet Accounts pane of System Preferences and you'll see.

I'm signed in only to Mail, Back to my Mac Reminders. The others are and have always been manually deselected immediately. As others have mentioned ion this thread and others on the board. Some upgrades have seen these selections change without input from the user.

In addition when I checked that panel Notes, Documents and Data, Photos had also been re-enabled.

Is this so hard to grasp?

As I can't replicate that behavior on any of my Macs I would have to say that yes, it is.

That's fine and understandable.

I can't figure out what you did wrong without more info,

Another assumption. I had none of the boxes checked, made a clone with DU prior to upgrading and then used Migration Assistant to auto set up. Some of the boxes are now checked.

........and your attitude is stopping you from helping with that.

With all due respect and If I'm honest, I can do without your kind of help in the future. It may just be how I see things but looking at how you've handled most of the, for want of a better expression - Anti iClouders in this thread, in my opinion your attitude is one that I don't care for.

Earlier in the thread we saw a few concise answers which is good even if your goals are different, but later you just seem to want to bash those that disagree with you.

Good luck.

Thank you. Goodbye.

Sorry for my English.
I found a bug in 10.9.3, if I synchronize contacts and calendars via USB, reminders are not synchronized.
But if I enable syncing for iCloud Reminders, me again sicronizar for iCloud calendars, although this is not enabled.
Anyone testing this?

It's not a bug. Only Contacts and Calendar are sync'd now with USB. If you want Reminders and anything else like Notes, you'll need to complain more on the Feedback forms for iOS and OSX. Complaining here helps some too, but it takes a bit of official channels banter to get noticed, even though Apple does paruse these forums a bit.

For those of you "old timers" who don't think Apple employees ever frequent on here, check the new TOS. Plainly states that they should be absolved of all suggestions on here if someone from their staff writes anything. Bottom line, THERE ARE SOME Apple employees who definitely read these forums. This thread and others about this feature was one of the pieces of info used to get them to do what they just did with 10.9.3. So, everyone who doubts it, go score your points in another thread. This one is and has done its intended job.

Yes it's all been said here before. You are just doing what you are telling others not to do by keeping this thread alive, even though the question has been answered. Apple may or may not have been swayed by this discussion. I have no more evidence than yourself. There was just as much screaming about colored labels being removed but I have not seen them put back yet.

Hopefully this will just die now after seven months but I would doubt it. Too many subscribers to the thread.

User choice is always good.

Nothing can protect someone from a Phishing expedition. The only way iCloud can be hacked is if someone gives their password away. Don't do that and all is safe.

Thanks for your answers, sorry if cause a problem with my comment to someone.

But it would be good to correct its Apple OSX, for users to choose if they want everything in iCloud or everything in USB, such as contacts, reminders, notes and calendars, and not some options if and some options not.

You do not have the option to sync Reminders and Notes in USB. You can ask for them to be added at http://www.apple.com/feedback/

This is where you choose which to sync by iCloud - system preferences iCloud. There is a similar setting in your iPad/phone. If you cannot choose to sync Cal and Contacts by USB by unchecking them in settings, and sync others by iCloud then maybe you could start another thread. This one is tired and finished.

Seems my last reply was removed by...let me guess, a Level 8. The fact is you are off topic and as a senior contributor you should showing a better example and staying on topic. If you have a complaint about the loss of a sevice/application you should use the Apple Feedback service, as you have advised many others to do.
