Nov 16, 2013 12:19 PM in response to snozdopby yep2,iTunes provided a full bi-directional sync with automatic (and manual if needed) conflict resolution (the difficult part of a true sync solution).
Your "sync" function is only in one direction - from iOS to Mac, and just overwrites whatever data exists on the Mac, losing any recent changes made on the Mac.
I would call this a "copy" function and a "destructive" one at that, not a "sync" - so I think it is important people realise this before they rush to use it in the hope it replicates anything like the complete sync functionality that iTunes offered.
snopdop,
you are completly right with what you are saying. This is why I said "preliminary workaround" and added the following in the app decription:
WARNING
Synchronization is one way: from iOS to OS X.
ALL CALENDAR DATA ON YOUR OS X DEVICE WILL BE OVERWRITTEN!
No warranty for data loss.
Be sure to add and update your calendar entries on iOS only.

Nov 16, 2013 1:46 PM in response to Barney-15Eby iTonimerlot,Yes, it works, THANK YOU 1000 "Barney-15E"!
I tried using my local WiFi network (with router) and also creating a Wi-Fi network between the iMac and iPhone / iPod, it works with both.
To configure the devices have changed:
For CalDAV account:
no: http://<ip address>/cal.php/principals/username
yes: http://<ip address>:8080/cal.php/principals/username
For CardDAV account:
no: <ip address>:8080/cal.php
yes: <ip address>:8080/card.php
I tried with:
OS X 10.9
+
iPod touch (4th generation) with iOS 6.1 (accounts configured correctly on the first try)
+
iPhone 5 with iOS 7.0.3 (multiple attempts before successfully configure CardDAV account)
For now it works perfectly!
PS: Sorry for my GooglEnglish!

Nov 16, 2013 2:30 PM in response to Gerrit7by dazzler79,hi everyone, two questions :
1/ does anyone know if and WHEN Apple plans to bring back the ability to sync iCal/Contacts/Notes through a simple USB cable, without having to use iCloud, or use Gmail (or any other online servers of any description), on any future versions of Mavericks ?
until Apple brings back this important function, i am NOT upgrading to Mavericks for the simple reason that i rely on being able to synchronise my iCal/Contacts/Notes across my devices all the time, but do not have constant access to the internet. judging from the previous posts there are many others with the same issue.
2/ does anyone know WHY Apple decided to remove this simple function ?
this makes no sense to me from an end-user point of view, because this assumes constant access to the internet for all your devices. there are many situations where you are travelling and may not have this : for example in the countryside, in a hotel (asking for multiple wi-fi passes for multiple devices costs time and money), while working on a plane or train, etc. let's not forget that in many parts of the world it is still difficult to get access to the internet. aren't these devices meant to help us be mobile ?
cheers.

SyncServices have been deprecated for the last two OS revisions. This is Apple's usual practice. Most software companies wouldn't give you that long.
SyncServices never worked very well. Apple's not blocking anything, it's an interesting opportunity for a third party if some other vendor wants to step up and provide a solution. Access to the data stores themselves is easy, as is demonstrated by Blackberry supporting the Q10 on iOS with their Blackberry Link software. The Q10 was never supported by SyncServices.

Long story short, my perception is that Apple is using contact lists from iCloud for advertising purposes.

Nov 16, 2013 5:20 PM in response to Marc Wilsonby dazzler79,hi Marc, thanks for the reply.
what exactly was wrong with SyncServices ?
a few previous posts also claimed that SyncServices wasn't working very well... i must admit i don't really understand this, as iCal/Contacts/Notes have always synchronised very well for me through good ol' USB - never had any problems.
just trying to understand Apple's decision !
thanks.
p.s. DigiAngel's theory also sounds interesting, especially with the competition from Google who already saves contact lists and calendar information through Gmail... still, i find it hard to accept that Apple would sacrifice usability to such an extent for commercial ends. perhaps i'm naive, but if this theory was true, surely they would already have enough information through all the people using iCloud who don't care about USB synchronising ?

Nov 16, 2013 5:22 PM in response to yep2by JColo,Yep2,
I really love that you made this, thanks very much. It all worked as described and I'm thrilled. Some calendars duplicated, and I have two lists in OSX calendar now, but I don't care, I'll figure out how to manage those at some point.
One thing you might consider checking or clarifying: the OSX calendar, post-sync, has all forward-dated repeating events, but only one week of iOS-entered unique events (next week).
If this is about my glitching it, and you'd like to, please clarify for me/us here.
Strong work!

Nov 16, 2013 5:26 PM in response to Gerrit7by ndawg,I just spent a few minutes via phone with Apple support. The woman I talked to didn't have any idea why sync wasn't working. She had to drop off the call twice to ask Apple tech people what was going on before someone could tell her that Mavericks/iTunes/whatever only works with iCloud.
That lack of communication shows how dumb the policy really is. She also clearly got some sort of embarrassing talking point to pass along to me, because she tried to explain that it wasn't a problem(!). She actually corrected me when I described it as a problem.
I have a hunch that if people keep complaining eventually Apple will do something about it.

Nov 16, 2013 11:25 PM in response to Gerrit7by WH,2/ does anyone know WHY Apple decided to remove this simple function ?
my opinion: To get unlimited access tu the data, like Google etc.
My experience is, that iTunes never worked very well for me.
Example, alone alphabetic sorting of music, pictures, is a real mess.
And I would like to be able to copy everything in two directions, without syncing.
I think, that iTunes is the worst app, that Apple developed in 30 years.
Maybe they should trash old iTunes but develope a new Mediaplayer, a new Appstore app
and a new syncing app.
But sync services in iTunes worked allways and everytime very well for me, syncing contacts.

DiskAide does not synchronize contacts, and does nothing for calendar.
It is file transfer app, it can transfer all or selected contacts to and from idevice.
