Nov 18, 2013 2:07 PM in response to DigiAngelby veda1,Could you please explain how the data is transmitted between devices? How do they connect? Through a USB cable?

Nov 18, 2013 2:32 PM in response to veda1by DigiAngel,Syncs over your wireless to your Maverick machine..local...it's pretty slick. Just runs as a service.

Nov 18, 2013 3:18 PM in response to DigiAngelby veda1,Thanks DigiAngel. Forgive me for being such an ignorant but does it sync using a wireless connection between the 2 devices or does it require an existing shared wireless network?
-
Nov 18, 2013 3:19 PM in response to veda1by DigiAngel,Ah...I see where you're going..you'll need an existing wireless network in order to use it...it's not device wireless to device wireless.

Nov 18, 2013 3:30 PM in response to DigiAngelby veda1,Thanks for clarifying DigiAngel. Due to EMF sensibility, I don't want to setup a wireless network. I wish there was a way to sync without it. Let's pray for a comeback of a sync with the USB cable from Apple or a 3rd party developper.

Nov 18, 2013 3:47 PM in response to DigiAngelby sdb2013,Really? Thanks for the response, DigiAngel. If that's the case, it would solve the issue. File sharing within IOS 7 parameters of app compatibility would probably address my need to work efficiently between pad and desktop on the local level.
If there any caveats on this, I'd appreciate the feedback. I have little time for a learning curve, I just need my tools to work.
Thanks again DA.

Nov 19, 2013 9:56 AM in response to Gerrit7by U.B.,Just as disappointed as you are all. It was may joy, obsession and pride with Apple because of that fact that I can do things locally (as oppose to Androids that keeps everything in Cloud). Now, either Apple is doing the same thing as Androids for business purpose or it was simply pushed to do so. Either way, I doubt that Apple will ever revers this decision.
I have nothing to hide, but I do want control over my info and over my life.
Thanks God I can still sync 1Password wirelessly btw my comp and iPhone.
I also hope that many calendar/contact apps (such as BusyCal that has desktop software) would offer local wi-fi synching. Sooooon please!
For now I would need to use another browser (such as Atomic Web) to import bookmarks via iTunes.
DigiAngel - What about bookmarks? Can you sync them via OS X Server?
Did you explore using: http://owncloud.org

Nov 19, 2013 10:34 AM in response to Arnorfby ccs93,Hi Arnorf,
I came across Eltima's website a few days ago and it relieved some of my stress regarding this issue as it looks to be a real solution to local sync. This would bring back the status quo ante -if you want the cloud, it's there, but if you don't, you'll have a way to keep it local. Everyone's happy!
When I read your post I thought they had updated thier information but sadly it still says that it's coming "this winter". That could be a long way off. The main software I use for work has been saying that an update for certain features "is about to be released" ... for the last few years!
This morning I've manually backed up all my data and recent files a few different ways, run one last TM backup and am about to revert to Mountain Lion so I can continue to keep my data synced locally while this plays out. I hope it does because I like Mavericks, other than this deal-breaker.

Nov 19, 2013 12:15 PM in response to U.B.by DigiAngel,Alas, there is no bookmark sync. I did try owncloud...it was pretty beefy compared to the solutions posted here for local sync of calendar and contacts. I have tried: OS X server, Baikal on Mavericks client, and Baikal on a linux machine...all work well over local wireless.

Nov 19, 2013 3:19 PM in response to Gerrit7by Ju from France,Hi Apple !
Hello ! Is there anybody ?
How many pages have we to write to get you to react ?
Now there are 74 pages in this discussion with more than 1000 Apple-user, for whom you created a true problem, without any reason (which I can see).
We are your customers, don't you see that ?
"Think global, act local" was once one of the slogan of the grassroot-movement.
With the NSA-transparent internet I want to modify this slogan : "sync local, act global" That's why I write you this post from France.
1 week ago I decided to change my old MBP to a brandnew MBA (which I like since a time). Now I think that my good old MBP with 10.6.8 will still be used for a while. For the moment, I stop to buy Macs.
Because I wait that you respect your customers, that yopu give me again the choice between the comfort of the cloud and the security of local sync and stop to impose one (your) choice, in brief that you correct this error.
Hope you heard me. Because I love your products and have a lot of them (> 30 Macs in my company…)
kind regards
from a french user

Do you understand that you are not addressing Apple here?
This is an Apple users site, you can write as many pages here as you like but we can't do anything about it. If you want to tell Apple, go here. Apple.com/Feedback

Nov 19, 2013 3:46 PM in response to Csound1by Ju from France,Hi Csound1 ! Of course I know, but I have a little hope that some Apple execs are interested, what Apple-user think about their products. It seems not so improbable …
