Q: How to locally sync an iPhone with OS X Mavericks? iCloud is NOT an option.

I knew you question that...local sync only. I keep my prefs files there in case I need them.

Can you detail the method you are using to locally sync Contacts and Calendars between your Mac and an IOS device please.

And which operating system is this? Mavericks?

The Mavericks iPhone Calendar/Contacts issue is as stupid as it gets for Apple....Its like not pulling down your pants while going to the bathroom....Its total extortion to buy iCloud once you eat your opening 5GBs.....Anyway

If I happen to enter it first in my MacBrookPro first....

I E-MAIL IT TO MYSELF

With the calendar entry in the subject line...

Exactly like this: MTG@NYC3PM 12/28...Using Subject Line only is enough...I think the space between the appt and the date is important.

I download the email to myself. The date is in blue...

To go to my iPhone with a sync in mind...(Apple should call it the kitchen sink)

I tap and hold the blue date...then choose create new event...It loads into iCal... and I tweak it

I delete the date at the end of the event title, in edit mode....I leave the time in, because I'm an "all day" man...I prefer the filled-in color look, and go by the time in the Event Title....I've always titled my events this way anyway because of the look. But it can be tweaked as you like....Yeah, it *****...but it works for me...

Conversely, if the event I get starts in the iPhone....Same thing as above...and E-Mail it to myself...

when I get the email on my laptop....forget the blue..I put the event in the body of the e-mail.. .I just mouse over the date to the drop down menu, and Add to Calendar, and tweak accordingly...

Bryan1969 and others who are upset/disappointed/angry or who are otherwise suffering and complaining about the removal of local Calendar and Contact syncing, PLEASE tell Apple why you think this is a bad idea and why you want/need it back!

You mean you send an email with the info in the subject line then you need to go into calendar, find the date, set a new appt, copy/paste, etc. and

Would be much simpler to invite yourself to the appt.

Then it sends an email and you can simply open the email and accept the invite and it dumps it into your calendar.

I'm pretty sure Apple is well aware of the general mood regarding the forced iCloud usage, and I dont think they care. We've all drank the Apple Kool-Aid....And will eventually conform, like we do with everthing else we haven't particularly cared for over the years...It's like living in Russia, at some point, you just do what you're told...And yes, I've been to and worked in Russia....   

I'm certainly not suffering...That's a bit dramatic, don't you think? Yes, its a shame they took our syncing InfoTab away...Soon all tabs will be in the cloud...

At this point, all I do is email an iCal event/new contact to myself, and drop where I need to put it....done...

Do you really think Apple would rescind this one? They've obviously done this with there best interest in mind....

Basically, I e-mail a new iCal event/new contact to myself...click it..choose my option...and drop it where I want it...thats it...I don't recall any copy/paste/invite....I don't go into iCal or address book....

When I click the event or contact...iCal or Address Book opens and comes to me, pretty much ready to go...I drop it in, and I'm done...I'm certainly not suggesting I like it...but its fast and easy...for me, anyway...

Of course they are aware... and the general mood is "meh... no big deal"... most were aleady syncing with iCloud or another cloud service. It's only the paranoids and nutjobs that seem to be freaking out about this.

Some people live in jurisdictions where privileged and private information may not be uploaded or placed on servers in a foreign country. Such people are—rightly—concerned that they have to use such a service (which they are forbidden by law to do) when previously all one had to do was plug in a metre-long cable between the two devices.

I'm not sure that Apple is aware of the general mood regarding the forced iCloud usage.  Regardless, people should make their opinions known to Apple unambiguously.

Thank you for your unenlightened, not-well-reasoned reaction and un-empathetic reaction.  We should not have more people such as you assisting others on these discussion boards. I'm not sure how such a person as you would get a Level 7; I guess there's no accounting for low SNR's.

But, for you edification, KiltedTim, at first glance and in no particular order, here are four reasons requiring iCloud syncing presents a problem (I'm sure others can come up with additional reasons):

1. One may desire to keep private information off the Internet (or out of one's control).  At least one can take responsibility for one's own data and not have it subjected to cracked/hacked cloud services, viewed/shared by less-than-scrupulous system administrators, etc.
2. The potential to violate one's employer's corporate policies about having stuff out of their electronic realm.  As more personal iOS devices are used at work, employers don't want electronic information floating off systems farther out of their control.  Yes, calendar events and contact entries can contain private information - and lots of it.
3. There are a lot more things in the end-to-end iCloud connection that can prevent successful syncing.  The number of moving parts needing to work nearly exactly correctly - just to simply sync two devices sitting right next to each other - increases dramatically.
4. Finally, one may not have Internet access from where one is at the time.  What a waste of technology.

I hope this helps you understand others' positions and concerns.

The constant whining and moaning is beyond ridiculous here. ALL of these points have already been addressed.

1. Downgrade OS X to 10.8 or install your own CalDAV and CardDAV services at least until a 3rd party produced a product that gives you the functionality you want.

2. WHY IN HADES are you even considering syncing confidential corporate information with ANYTHING other than servers owned and controlled by your employer?

3. So what? There are lots of pieces parts toyour Mac, too... This point is meaningless.

That's a simple one to answer. Every time KT (I'll call him that for brevity) solves or helps solve a users problem that user may award him points. So that's quite a lot of helpful answers young KT has amassed.

I agree to your implied point that further whining here is pointless; hence my suggestion for people to provide feedback.

2. Exactly!  I don't sync confidential information with anything other than company-owned (or company approved personal devices - a growing trend in the US) with servers owned or controlled by my employer - such as iCloud.
3. If you understand technology, you will see that you are increasing the complexity significantly by replacing a wire (or local WiFi) with Internet-based connections.
4. The Daytimer is something I used to use before I had a reasonable computer.

As somebody else said here, you are clearly a troll; further conversation with you is as useful as talking to a bush.
