Q: How to locally sync an iPhone with OS X Mavericks? iCloud is NOT an option.

I read that OS X Mavericks will no longer allow me to use iTunes to sync my iPhone to a local system but makes iCloud mandatory? Is that correct?

iCloud is not a valid option for me since I have no control about my data there, I need to keep all my data (contacts, calendar...) on a system under my control and so far iTunes allowed me to do that which was one of the reasons I didn't even consider Android or Windows Phone.

OS X Mountain Lion (10.8.5)

Most of us would beg to differ now that you are trolling and spamming every post on the topic.

Once again you are just repeating the post. Please do not post duplicate entries. Trying to disguise it as a response to two different people doesn't change that it is a duplicate post.

    Copy of my feedback:

I still wait for the WiFi sync to make it back to iTunes in OS X Mavericks. Please bring back this feature in an upcoming OS update.

Syncing only over iCloud is not an option for my private data. I live in Germany, and many Apple users here are very concerned.

I cannot update my OS X until this problem has been solved.

Also, with all the NSA news behind, Apple loses credibility in the users' eyes if they are urged to sync everything through a cloud service.

    Think different!

Probably should have mentioned syncing contacts locally since you can stiill (and only) sync iTunes locally over wifi or USB.

Also, with all the NSA news behind,

Perhaps you should be more concerned with the Bundesamt für Verfassungsschutz since they are likely the organization that provided much of the info to the NSA.

    Hello Petermac87 !

That's a lot of people using icloud, you are right (even if I didn't find a source for this information).

But I found how many iPhones and iPads were sold until now : 420 millions of iPhones and 150 millions of iPads. 350 of the 420 millions iphones were sold in the last 3 years. Let's suppose that they are probably still actif.  Let's add from the 150 millions of iPads 100 millions as actif ipads.

Let's suppose, that a total of 450 millions of idevices are actif actually. There seem to be still a lot of people out there, who don't use icloud - for various reasons.

    Could you agree ?

I agree with feinmeister since he at least contributed/explained something here while you are replying with useless responses. If you're such a sport, lead by example and keep shut.

Theo and those that want to see change:

At the moment, there is no solution to manually syncing Contacts if using Mavericks.  This thread is great for venting but is not action-oriented in a way that will resolve the issue.  The issue is about choice and privacy.  Some of us are diehard iCloud fans with no respect for those of us that want the choice we had before Mavericks upgrade.  We are not bashing iCloud, it's an individual preference on what to store or not to store on it. I use iCloud for a lot but refuse to use it for Contacts and deeply resent the removal of my choice to manually sync not to mention the utter inconvenience.  Apple brand is about choice and conveninece.  They need to hear from you.

I can't repeat it enough, this forum is a closed loop (we are talking to ourselves and clearly the monitors of this site aren't pleased with me).  If you truly want Apple to hear AND act upon your feedback, you MUST go to Apple Feedback site, select your product and choose the subject Design and Ease of Use.  Suggest you choose both Mavericks and iPhone as products.

The engineers actively review this information. They look for a preponderance of evidence that justifies a product update.  It is important to give the feedback in the same subject area because it is difficult to tally manual sync complaints across subjects (customer service goes for path of least resistance).  It is important to share this information with others who are distressed by the changes wrought by Mavericks IF you want to a resolution.  Publicity is a motivator and Apple is typically responsive when they are aware of the volume of displeasure.
