Q: How to locally sync an iPhone with OS X Mavericks? iCloud is NOT an option.

I read that OS X Mavericks will no longer allow me to use iTunes to sync my iPhone to a local system but makes iCloud mandatory? Is that correct?

iCloud is not a valid option for me since I have no control about my data there, I need to keep all my data (contacts, calendar...) on a system under my control and so far iTunes allowed me to do that which was one of the reasons I didn't even consider Android or Windows Phone.

OS X Mountain Lion (10.8.5)

When you respoind to an individual in a thread, it goes into the thread.

If you reply with the same response to 10 individuals, each & every post is displayed in the thread.

People, please just ignore those who are paid here to talk us into accepting iCloud.

Lets get back to solution how to go around this problem while avoiding to reinstall the previous OS.

I do not see possibility of Apple changing anything to our favour. We should rather pressure other developers to create apps for calendars, notes, contacts… for both iOS and OS and enable us to sync locally. This was successfully done on 1Password example. Pressure and public cry made them to go back to wifi syncing. So now I do not need Apple for passwords protection and privacy.

    U.B. et al,

I've been dealing with Apple's Executive Customer Service for this issue. After going thru multiple CSRs (customer service reps) and supervisors, I landed at the top of the service food chain.  I've been told that Apple engineers will only fix this issue / reinstate manual sync option for Mavericks when they receive enough feedback that lets them know that many folks are unhappy. A while back, I had a problem with Time Machine and after enough noise, Apple did fix the issue.  Apple is responsive but you must give them info the way they want it.

Again, the engineers monitor the Apple feedback site and look for trends and volume.  Go to apple.com/feedback > Select iPhone and Mavericks (that would be feedback twice) > Select the subject Design and Ease of Use > express your desire to manually sync using Mavericks / reinstate the option.  Customer Service ops need feedback in one area so that it is easy for them to see issue volume and trends. I've run service ops and I can tell you that nothing gets done unless an issue is loud and clear.

IF you want a fix, get other dissatisfied folks to submit feedback-- Apple will listen. The removal of the CHOICE to manually sync and forcing iCloud syncing goes against what Apple stands for, they will listen IF you talk where they listen.

    I agree with Feinmeister,

but I like to add, we need forum to discuss this stuff. If we do not discuss this,

nobody has personal overlook and idea about the future, about systems future and privacy and so on.

So, basically, it is not bad to discuss. Some people may change her minds also.

More than that, it is important.

So, we should discuss this, and if anybody does not agree with Apple ideas, he should go to

    apple.com/feedback.

I think, it is a less good idea, to generally prevent discussion, commenting "go to feedback".

Its basically right, but without discussion people often do not get a personal idea and dont get know

of Apples feedback site.  So, we need both.

The cuestion is, if we do right, discuss on Gerrit7's thread. I imagine, his cuestion is already answered,

that there is no adequate option.

Maybe he can comment himself, if he agrees to this discussion or if he  would like the thread topic related.

If he dont agrees, we should open a new discussion thread, which would clearly have the disadvantage, that this

one already says everything and has more than 100000 views.

    Hi

i completely agree with WH, Feinmeister, and other

WE NEED TO DiSCUSS about this subject and THIS THREAD is perhaps not intended for this,

    but nevertheless very suitable

I personnaly post several message to Apple Support, alas i and we have no possibilty to know if they even received them, read them, and take care of them

we all express in this thread and to apple support our opinion about the use of an important (for us) Apple software, Apple must take care of us and has to repply

    PS:

i like, i love the solutions coming from Petermac87 and the contribution of other Apple fanatic, when i am sad i just have to read such contributions in this post  and my day is coming  immediately better...
