Dec 8, 2013 6:52 PM in response to brollyjohnby petermac87,And yourself and others being edited are in a 'special' catagory. Oh and the answer to the topic is just plug in a USB chord and sync as always. (Just note that contacts and calendars are now excluded). But options have been posted here.

Dec 9, 2013 4:48 AM in response to EMACKAAYby James Richards,As the thread is extensively populated with people ranting to Apple and others telling them that this is not the place for that, you may find this post: https://discussions.apple.com/message/24047342#24047342 a helpful starting point.

Dec 9, 2013 8:56 AM in response to Gerrit7by cmincr,Some (in this case Apple) seem to believe the whole world has universally-accessible Internet. Those of us who live/work/travel with limited and often "no" Internet now need to transport computer, iphones, ipods, and ipads to a local hotspot to sync Contacts and Calendar... Backleveling to 10.8 is only a short term solution.

Dec 9, 2013 8:49 AM in response to cmincrby Csound1,What is believed or not is irrelevant, there is no local sync facility in iTunes any more. If you have no internet you'll have to setup local sync per Barney's instructions.
Or wait for a third party solution to emerge.

Dec 9, 2013 9:19 AM in response to Gerrit7by wiredancer,.... I just came off the phone (30 min long distance) with apple tech suport, at: 1 800 854 3680. I got as far as the supervisor. But,.... no luck. They don't know if Local Syncing will come back. They don't say that it will never come back, but also they would not say if it ever will. So, I'm stuck... I'm in a remore area, no internet. Besides the fact, that I don't want to use storadge space anywhere else then on my property. If we all keep asking for it, we might have a chance. I got a case number and all..... So, Feedback, Feedback, Feedback. Go to the feedback page and start under iPhone. Then, choose Maverick as System. The supervisor also advised me to write to Apple by postal mail at:
Apple
1 Infinite Loop
Cupertino, CA 95014
408.996.1010
I bought my first Mac in 1983. Currently I'm using 3 iPhones, 1 iPad and 2 Macs, 4 Airport (for distributing info and sound withing the home). My kids each have an iPhone and an iPad and a MacBook. My wife also has 1 iPhone and 1 iPad and one MacBook.
Total Devoces in the Family:
- 6 iPhones
- 4 iPads
- 5 Macs
(pluss several iPods and other Apple gadgets...)
That's 15 devices, all no longer possible to locally sync. Worth about $20'000.-
Now, if I start to reduce the devices and switch to products that can do this..... that might have an impact on Apple and so we can just hope that they will reinstate the so very functional local syncing.
What really got me was, that they took it away without notice. Just from one day to an other, no warnimng.

Dec 9, 2013 9:25 AM in response to wiredancerby Drew Reece,I feel for you, but consider how 10.8 still syncs, as does every Mac OS that supported it before 10.9.
Do you have any good reason for choosing an OS that doesn't do what you need?
People with new hardware are stuck on 10.9 but if you have no reason to stick with it revert & maybe a third party will have a working solution in 6 months or so.

Dec 9, 2013 9:28 AM in response to Drew Reeceby wiredancer, thanks. yes, I would revert in a second, but it has been several weeks now, with lots of new data that is not present on that Time Machine Copy with the previous OSX version....
What to do?

Dec 9, 2013 10:04 AM in response to boglottby applejpmc,So, here is what I did: I bought the OS X Server and run a local Calendar and Contacts server.
I switched all my iOS devices and OS X Calendar and Contacts application config to that server in the local network. And I exported my contacts and calendar entries from the local store in OS X to a file and then reimported them to the server store using the same OS X client applications. Now my devices are in sync again and should keep automatically synced whenever I am home an the Mac is running. --- End Quote
Hope you can help - I want to do exactly this to be able to sync my calendar and contacts without icloud. I bought the os x server but there are no instructions on using it, simply some tutorials that are worded in computer speak and totally incomprehensible to me. I simply use a computer, no idea about programming.
Any way you can note a simple way on how to set up this os x server so I can sync contacts and calendars to my iphone 3 gs and iphone 5?
Would appreciate anything you can suggest.

Dec 9, 2013 10:09 AM in response to wiredancerby Drew Reece,The user tips attempt to cover that situation.
Restoring a previous OS X version
How to revert OS X back from Mavericks
Personally I would attempt to find the most recent changed files to get an idea of what is new via Spotlight searches, or smart folders in apps like iTunes, iPhoto etc. Save that onto another disk & move it back when the old OS is in place.
It would make sense to create a full bootable copy of this 10.9 system, so you don't risk losing any new data. It could also be used to revert the internal disk should anything go wrong. Time Machine is OK, but it isn't as flexible as a bootable copy.
I would copy files out that were in 'managed libraries' (iPhoto & iTunes) because you may not be able to restore the new library data to the old version of the software. You would use the library from Time Machine & add the new content to it.
Mail should be re-synced from the server assuming that is how the accounts are setup.
You can export backups from Contacts & Calendar on the Mac to use for re-adding the items to the old OS.
It's undeniably a tough process that equires thought & planning, so read the tips & decide what you can live with.

Dec 9, 2013 11:42 AM in response to cmincrby James Richards,In one of my recent previous posts I linked back to a post and a tutorial which would enable you to set up a sync between a Mac and any mobile devices that previously synced to it by USB. This doesn't require access to a Pre-existing wifi network as you can choose "Create network…" from the Wifi status menu on your Mac. The instructions are for setting up without the need for OS X Mavericks Server, but it can also be done with that server. It may not answer all your problems, but it does enable local sync without the need of the internet, or indeed a pre-existing wifi network.

Dec 9, 2013 1:19 PM in response to petermac87by wiredancer,Thanks, Pete
I have the Apple Server and I tried Barney..... )-:
Anyone know a less computer jargon type instruction? Is there a ready made server App or instructions for dummies?
I think its a good approach. But my attempt with Barney did not work. And if it doesn't work, then its not easy to find the bug (-:
Thanks
