dont know if this might be a hint. the name of my computer and the name of host. shouldn't the computer name figure in Terminal? and not the host name

Are you running Server? You don't need to do all of this. Server already has a built-in CardDAV and CalDAV server.

I would go to the OS X Server forum and ask how to set up a CalDAV and CardDAV server.

Make sure you describe what you have done, perhaps linking to my tip, so they can help revert what we have done.

There is an original folder in the apache2 folder where you can copy the original files that we've edited back to their places.

Barney, Do you think it might be worth putting something at the top of your tip to tell users that if they have OS X serer already then the tip is not for them? There maybe a few neophyte users who get the info from the web that OS X server is a way round their sync issues and get hold of it, without really knowing anything about it or what to do next.

Finally, some media attention with what the sysops have been saying.  Leave Apple feedback.  It's nice to see that it's hit Apple Executive Customer Service.  So, pound them with feedback.  Have your friends send in too.  And, don't just ask for contacts and calendars.  Lets get syncing of Notes and Reminders back too.

It's a shame that article has so many inaccuracies in it. Whatever happened to "journalists" checking what they write before posting a story?

Just the first paragraph has three glaring errors.

1) No-one is 'forced' to use iCloud. Numerous other Internet based contact syncing services are also available.

2) Apple isn't 'moving' away from SyncServices - they already moved. 2 years ago when 10.7 was released.

3) Contacts can easily be removed from iCloud, and you cannot 'cancel' an iCloud account anyway.

There's a lot of media attention to the issue in Europe now.

That's good. Hasn't been mentioned in the media here.

If it's that big in the media hopefully they'll have enough time to put Sync services into 10.9.1, I've now rolled back to ML because as much as I like Mavericks this is a deal breaker for me. I'd like to use the CalDav thing but standard iTunes syncing is just so straightforward.
