.... for your solution, programing skills are required. I'm not a programer. Baikal is not a solution for me. After 3 nights of trying, it did not work!!!!!
Well that is one of two solutions. The other is to reinstall your previous system from the backup you made before choosing to install Mavericks.
OS X Mavericks: Revert to a previous OS X version

Dec 31, 2013 6:19 AM in response to snozdopby wiredancer,I guess you don't know yet, contacts and calendar use very little space. It' not the contacts and calendar the problem. It's all the other stuff like photos and so on, that will fill up the Cloud in no time. Many people don't know this and synchronize everything possible with the Cloud, and very soon are confronted with the limit and before the problem of needing more memory. Which is not for free.

Memory has nothing to do with the amount of data uploaded to iCloud. Where did you read that?

Dec 31, 2013 6:23 AM in response to petermac87by wiredancer,Yes I know Pete, the problem is, it has been over a month now and turning back would make me lose data between the time of the backup before Maverick and today.

Photo Streaming does not use iCloud storage space.
iTunes Match does not use iCloud storage space (although, that is a separate paid service).

Then there should be no problems reverting if all your data is backed up.
Good luck

Yes, I do know - that's why I said you wouldn't be able to use up the free 5GB with that anyway.
It's all the other stuff like photos and so on, that will fill up the Cloud in no time.
Who said anything about using iCloud for that? This thread is specifically about the removal of syncing contacts and calendars via iTunes over USB. That is the only feature that has been removed.
You can still sync photos and everything else via iTunes over USB, so the free 5GB "limit" is irrelevant.
And anyway, I guess you don't know yet - that your photos in iCloud's Photostream feature do not count towards your iCloud storage.

.... after 126 pages of posts, you still have not realized what this thread is all about! We all know that there is numerous Cloud syncing solutions. But please, name me one usable local syncing solution?????? The only one that worked, was taken away from Apple without evident notice. Apple is trying to get people to use there iCloud solution, which is a Cloud, not a local syncing solution. And is not for free after 5G. Please help in posting any solutions for LOCAL syncing.
The original question on page 1 was how can I sync contacts and calendar when there is no internet.
I suggest that when you are on the road (like I was many years ago) you have one master device for calendar changes (mine used to say “Diary 1986” on the front) which nowadays will be the iPhone. Any changes to your schedule you make on that iphone and almost everyone will carry it with them. The need for syncing to Mac can wait til you do get internet. Unless you carry both and want to randomly choose between them, in which case you would need to cable sync every time you made ANY change. For those times where you do have internet the sync (so-called) is automatic and immediate. And guess what, your PA can get the changes too.
With Contacts (and we are only talking changes here) if there is no internet you can’t email anyway. Again you would do any other messaging from your iphone. It’s only NEW contacts that are not yet on the Mac anyway.
All this piffle for the last 90% of the thread has been people making whinging political statements about compulsion and security, and it takes away from the fact that using "the cloud" (iCloud or Hotmail calendar or Gmail calendar) is the present and the future. Move on you luddites.
