Jan 7, 2014 6:29 PM in response to Csound1by KteeC,Thank for responding.
But Csound1 - how do I find the date the upgrade took place? Is there a log of all upgrades I can access?
-
Jan 7, 2014 6:34 PM in response to KteeCby Csound1,You performed this upgrade (from the App Store) Lion was a chargeable item, look in your credit card statement to see when you bought it.
Lion was the first of the downloaded upgrades (not updates) (there are only 3 in total, Lion, Mountain Lion and Mavericks) it should be simple to find it.

Jan 7, 2014 6:41 PM in response to DigiAngelby KteeC,Thanks DigiAngel
There is an Info tab which I am relieved about so seems I do have versions which will allow they synch.
However Ive tried clicking synch 'all calendars' and also tried clicking synch 'selected calendars' and selecting them all - was suggested in another post - but the appointments still dont show up in my iphone (only the very few gmail ones - non of the 'icloud' ones and not of the 'on my mac'). [I have them all checked to show on iphone too].
I dont understand what happened as Im not doing anything different from when I synched before a couple of weeks ago. I just assumed Id accepted an automatic update which had omitted that facility after reading posts here.
Is there a version of Itunes which I should not upgrade to then? Sorry if missed it earlier.

Jan 7, 2014 6:44 PM in response to KteeCby KteeC,I mean update rather, not upgrade. Noted.
Is it just the upgrade that causes the issues?

Jan 7, 2014 6:46 PM in response to KteeCby Csound1,Let's slow down
If you are using Lion (10.7) you can still sync the way you used to, nothing changed regarding Sync Services until Mavericks, when they were removed.

Jan 7, 2014 6:58 PM in response to Csound1by KteeC,Yes, Csound1, i was panicking you are right.
But its not doing nowt.
Have tried about 20 times, checking, unchecking, rechecking. (aparently this has worked for others)
Have done a test and put in three appointements on the same day. An 'on my mac', an 'icloud' and a 'gmail'.
Only the gmail one turns up in the phone calendar. Even though calendars are checked on the phone.
Baffling.

Jan 7, 2014 7:26 PM in response to Gerrit7by rpotter1967,Last time I turned on icloud, the 4 iphones and 3 ipads my family has - all got the wrong texts and emails. EVEN after selecting the correct phone numbers and emails associated with each device.
Come on Apple fix the issue. I want to synch without icloud.

I presume you did not read the thread before posting. Apple are not here. Register your complaint/request at
FEEDBACK http://www.apple.com/feedback/macosx.html
Or set up your own local server

That is NOTHING to do with the contacts/calendars syncing issue being discussed here.
That is simply because you are sharing the same AppleID for iMessage, and are sharing a single iCloud account between people who obviously need/want their own independent email. They need their own iCloud account.

Jan 8, 2014 7:07 AM in response to rpotter1967by gumsie,As per Snozdops reply are you sure you are configured correctly?
Apple do in fact listen but don't reply usually here. That point is stated in their terms of use. The feedback page is the best option for gripes or praise alike though, doing it here will get you sneered at and yield little result.

Jan 8, 2014 9:01 AM in response to DigiAngelby uguna,Surely the point is that the option of syncing locally should still be available. The idea that someone who prefers to do this, rather than trusting essential data to the internet, is some sort of dinosaur is arrogant nonsense. It's not the option of using iCloud that's the problem, it's the removal of the option of not using it. I spend five months of the year in an area where the only internet access is via a dial-up USB dongle; slow, unreliable, insecure. Even if I thought iCloud is a satisfactory solution via broadband (and I don't) it ceases to be any sort of solution under those circumstances.

You can let Apple know of your opinion by posting at this link: Apple.com/feedback

Jan 8, 2014 11:12 AM in response to ugunaby wiredancer,Apple has taken away a product, a function, based on which I had purchased their products. My business is damaged because of this issue. Wouldn't I have the right to continue using the purchased product as they had propagated it?
Isn't this fraud if I can't and they have mislead me? To make believe that you can do certain things with a product, but then you can not, that's fraud.

Take it up with your lawyer.

Jan 8, 2014 12:25 PM in response to ugunaby James Richards,For those, like you, for whom local syncing is a mission critical issue, it may be worth pointing out again that there is a local sync solution that can be used just between your Mac and your iPhone. It is wifi rather than cable, but it works with nothing more required than your Mac and your iPhone.
It involves setting up some software on your Mac, but after that it works seamlessly IME. Barney-15E has created a User Tip which takes you through the process step by step. Elsewhere I've described the process of moving your 'On my Mac' calendars and contacts so that they will be synced under the new setup.
Once set up syncing will happen automatically between your devices on, say, your home network, or will happen between iPhone and Mac if you link them together using the 'Create Network…' option on your Mac's wifi menu.
You may find technical information more accessible via this other thread which (IMHO) has a better signal to noise ratio.
Another way of achieving the same result would be to stump up $20 for OS X Mavericks Server where the process of settting it up may be a little more user friendly.
I hope this is of some help to you.
James
