Q: How to locally sync an iPhone with OS X Mavericks? iCloud is NOT an option.

I read that OS X Mavericks will no longer allow me to use iTunes to sync my iPhone to a local system but makes iCloud mandatory? Is that correct?

iCloud is not a valid option for me since I have no control about my data there, I need to keep all my data (contacts, calendar...) on a system under my control and so far iTunes allowed me to do that which was one of the reasons I didn't even consider Android or Windows Phone.

OS X Mountain Lion (10.8.5)

If you are now using Windoze boxes, why are you still hanging around the OSX Mavericks forums, moaning to us about something you should be moaning to Apple about, and something that now doesn't even affect you? If your business doesn't work without local sync, then it doesn't work with local sync. Good. You solved your issue. Move on and stop ranting.

    Cheers

    1. I still have Mac systems at home and am anxious to keep learning if there are other solutions to iCloud available. I keep pinging a variety of forums.

    2. I can go anywhere I please, it's not up to you. Stop being so snotty for heaven's sake. There's no reason for your teenage attitude.

    Have a wonderful evening.

I think it is not a matter of moaning. Matt has a problem which is not small. Not only a financial problem, but for a business it is a big time consuming issue. And Matt is not alone. There are thousands of people with the same problem. We need to listen to the problems and give constructive help if possible.

I fully understan your problem. I'm in the same situation. Lets hope someone will come up with a good local syncing solution soon.

A friend of mine, a doctor in Boulder, operates a sports medicine clinc. I just found out that due to HIPAA regulations, they have to move their practice-wide Mac systems running MacPractice to Windows machines running something different (they are researching). Federal law demands that no patient data may be exposed to or shared in any way over the internet; maintain privacy or face a stiff monetary fine, insurance/Medicare payment slowdowns, possible loss of medical license or even criminal legal action.

So, another business is impacted, and more Mac developers lose money, too.

They should be running a server, which they can do for $20, and they can still not share data over the internet.

And they don't know how to set up a local server? Perhaps they need a new IT consultant.

They can't - it was one of the first things I asked him. The software used and their practice organization makes that a difficult to impossible move. They've already made the decision to migrate to Win8. Just like iCloud, running a server is not a solution for everybody.

Everybody except Microsoft loses. Apple loses a business customer. Apple's developers lose business. The customer loses their tried and true methodology. It's just a lose-lose decision by Apple.

Sounds like a lot of excuses. If there is software that is driving them to Windows, iCloud has nothing to do with it.

With iCloud users hitting 340 million users it sounds like a win win to me. They may lose a couple of old businesses along the way, but they are picking up millions more.

Who are they? It's up to the original poster to mark the thread closed. If that doesn't suit you then just ignore the  thread.

There have been plenty longer that never got features returned.

If you cut out the nonsense posts then it would be a lot, lot smaller.
