Jan 27, 2014 12:25 PM in response to Barney-15Eby wiredancer,Question:
As I'm searching for temporary solutions....here is an idea. I got this old MacBook (black) with version OS X 10.6.8 on it and I was thinking that maybe I could sync all my mobile devices this way. The iTunes version on this Mac is 11.0.3. When I try to hock up my iPhone 4 (iOS 7) with USB cable, I get a message saying I need iTunes version 11.1 or higher. Can I upgrade to iTunes 11.1.4, while keeping OS X at 10.6.8? Wiil the "Info Tab" still be there?

I had the same brilliant idea using my iPad and it doesn't work. If your iPhone is running the latest version and your MacBook is an earlier OS, the iTunes interface doesn't allow the manual sync as we knew it. As soon as you upgrade iTunes, it's over. ;-((

Jan 27, 2014 12:43 PM in response to feinmeisterby wiredancer,... how about if I find out the exact version, starting which the Info Tap is no more and then find a version just below that...? It's asking for 11.1 and higher, so maibe the Info Tab is still there in version iTunes 11.1.0?

If you are using Mac OS X 10.9 Mavericks, it is irrelevant if the tab is there.
You cannot sync contacts & calendars using Mavericks, regardless of iTunes version.
You will simply get a message stating that Sync Services is not installed and your contacts & calendars will not be sync'd.
I had iTunes 10 installed with the Info tab.
Contacts & Calendars do not sync.
I even wrote a bug report.

Jan 27, 2014 1:12 PM in response to wiredancerby snozdop,It's not the version of iTunes that dictates whether the Info tab is there, it is the version of OS X. Any version of OS X prior to Mavericks will have the Info tab with any version of iTunes. You don't need version 11.1.0 specifically.

Jan 27, 2014 1:17 PM in response to wiredancerby snozdop,He's wrong. It is the presence of SyncServices in OS X that governs whether the Info tab is there - not the version of iTunes.
If it were the version of iTunes you would have people with earlier versions of OS X complaining they can't sync anymore. Only people who've updated to Mavericks are complaining.

Jan 27, 2014 1:19 PM in response to snozdopby wiredancer,I see. This is good information. So, you're saying I could upgrade to 11.1.4 without problems?
-
Jan 27, 2014 1:25 PM in response to wiredancerby snozdop,Yep, should be fine. See here: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5847 SyncServices is present in OS X Mountain Lion and earlier.
But if you're concerned, you may feel its better to stick with versions you know work. Don't fix what isn't broken!

Jan 27, 2014 5:32 PM in response to James Richardsby brollyjohn,If you don't want to give your money to apple, here's another 3rd party solution.
You need Owncloud server 5 (free) and the Owncloud Ios app (99 cents).
