Q: How to locally sync an iPhone with OS X Mavericks? iCloud is NOT an option.

I read that OS X Mavericks will no longer allow me to use iTunes to sync my iPhone to a local system but makes iCloud mandatory? Is that correct?

iCloud is not a valid option for me since I have no control about my data there, I need to keep all my data (contacts, calendar...) on a system under my control and so far iTunes allowed me to do that which was one of the reasons I didn't even consider Android or Windows Phone.

OS X Mountain Lion (10.8.5)

Still don't see you posting anything to support your claims, yet you have no problem telling others to do some research.

I think you are just guessing.

Apple is giving users no choice but to use iCloud to sync machies and phones. So an increase in users of iCloud is not necessarily by voluntary users who luuuuv it. I'm pretty sure that it wasn't simply out of the goodness of their hearts that Apple decided to give all the users space on their servers. I'm sure they are mining data and finding new revenue streams from this.

There lots of choices, iCloud is just one of them, unless Apple is all you can see.

You're right, it is a feeling they are mining data, but just because you're paranoid doesn't mean they aren't trying to get you. And yes there are other choices besides Apple, but as many are, I am heavily invested (not spiritually but financially) in Apple products. To switch over now is not a viable choice. And as I said Apple is giving users (I should have said 'of its products') no choice but to use the iCloud. My comment was in reponse to an earlier post that touted the increase in numbers of users of iCloud of proof of its popularity and acceptence.

I hope so because iPhone 3G dose not support iCloud.  So tomorrow I will be trying one (OSX server).  I'v all ready tried 5 other ways and Yes I can sync my Calendars, Addressbook, Photos and Music just not Notes.  So wish me luck.

P.S.  I used spell checker.  I'm supprised that Csound1(as he likes to point out mine) did not point out DFHdez's typo  "machies" for "machines" LOL

Just to be clear.  Just because they tyring to get you doesn't mean your paranoid.  LOL

You know as a admin/root user one has much power and a much heaver responsibility not to miss use that power.  Do we not think there are people who try to get root user power to steel information and do we think Apple is immune to such spying?   Ofcouse spying is not limited to companies and data farms but people can and do try and get into any systems.  The difence if your a the only user of your system is that your the only root user and there for the only question to ask is do I trust me. But if I use somebody else's system to say iCloud you also have to ask do I trust the root/admin's of iCloud?

Don't  use iCloud. Simple really. Or tell Apple how you feel instead of repeating yourself here Ad Nauseam.

What's the point in telling me "Don't use iCloud"? I am suppressed that a user with 3,650 points can't or dose not grasp the concept that I can not use iCloud even if I wanted to.  I say this because I have stated before that the iPhone 3G dose not support iCloud.   So instead of telling me not to use iCloud you might like to wish me luck in my 6th attempt at using an alternative.

If you need hardware to function with particular software, then buy the appropriate hardware. You can choose to stay with an old 3G if you wish, just don't expect it to be supported forever. Same with laptops, desktops, iPads.............(oops, I won't repeat myself)

I would if people stoped posting Ad Nauseam unhelpfull replays that demand a responce.  If there is nothing to add in the way of answering the question asked at the top of the post then don't bother.  I'm going to post a replay to Pete then to try and do somthing positave and I hope to be able to report a positave outcome.
