Q: How to locally sync an iPhone with OS X Mavericks? iCloud is NOT an option.

I read that OS X Mavericks will no longer allow me to use iTunes to sync my iPhone to a local system but makes iCloud mandatory? Is that correct?

iCloud is not a valid option for me since I have no control about my data there, I need to keep all my data (contacts, calendar...) on a system under my control and so far iTunes allowed me to do that which was one of the reasons I didn't even consider Android or Windows Phone.

OS X Mountain Lion (10.8.5)

Open the 10.8 installer package, grab the InstallESD & 'restore' that to a USB stick in Disk Utility. It should allow you to boot by holding alt @ startup.

Sorry for the brief post, it's a bad time, but Google will show you how to make a USB stick from a Mac installer.

Yeah I know all that, was trying to make the installer run natively. Anyways it's probably taboo to discuss this here so I'll bring this to a close but thanks anyway.

I can't understand the need for some to make comments on peoples lifestyle choice.  Should computers be our slaves and not use slaves to them?  Should computers not be programed to help our lifestyle choices? Should thouse who make and programs computers not am/try to make/program computers to help with our lifestyles?  I don't understand why thouse who make/program computers would tack something away in the name of progress when that something helped atrive a lifestyle choice and that something dose not stop other lifestyle choices or prograss.

SyncServices did not and would not(if it had been keeped) stop the lifestyle choice to use the cloud as well as providing for the lifestyle choice not to.

But the service you want is now gone, so now you must do what humans have done for thousands of years and find a new way. Such is life.

Yes inded, In this cas "find a new way" to sync with out iCloud.  There are ways but none of them so fare as ease as the old way so we still search and devlope.  As well as to as to ask(I know not though these forums.... use feedback and other way) thouse who have programed and de-programed(sorry no such word) removed the old was to put them back.  As putting them back would not damage the fuction.

The ve...m(sorry can't find spelling of the word I want to use here) that some seem to have in trying to convince others not to try and find ways of doing local sync is pal...bal(sorry same spelling problem and spell checker did not help)strong.

TopSteve, I don't know what what you are hoping to gain by hijacking someone else's thread and treating it as your own with the same repetitive posts for weeks on end, which have done nothing but confuse other viewers to this thread. Perhaps wait, read and pray until another method is posted here or start your own thread on the topic which will attract replies to your specific aims and/or technical issues.

    Thanks

    Pete

OK Peter so I start another thread "How to locally sync an iPhone with OS X Mavericks? iCloud is NOT an option." and ops!!! there are two threads asking the same question!  Is that better than keeping all the things in one thread?

My "specific aims and/or technical issues" are the same as the persion who asked this question.

If any one is "hijacking" it is thouse who are trying to convince thouse of us that have the question that is asked in this thread. to use stop trying to work something out and iCloud or shutup.

Hmmm...perhaps reword the question?? Why use someone else's exact words? You are not getting any answers to your personal inconvenience at present. It would take a lot of crud off this thread if you had your own.

    Thanks in advance

I what "crud" are you saying is a direct resolt of my posts?

As for rewording the question It seam strange to reword a question that is so clear in the first place just so I can post it on a new thread.   I thank Gerrit7 for asking it.

Even if I would post a new question asking the same thing in diffent words I will be that some people including your self would chime in to put it down.

No, I would steer clear of it as the answers at the moment are contained in this and other posts that people have been kind enough to open themselves instead of trying to take over someone else's thread. If you have something new and helpful to offer here, then please post it.

I haven't been following this thread for several weeks now, as Apple had blocked my commenting... Maybe I it was viewed as a threat to them (-:

But, I see that you raving about iCloud is continuing.

Don't you get it, that people that come to this thread are people that don't want to use iCloud? So not really much sense to keep promoting it, is there?

People here are looking for simple solutions to locally sync, with a cable, .... you know,.... iPhone on the table, next to the Mac....

The moderators would have removed comments and blocked you. You would have been in receipt of an email as to the reason. You would certainly not be seen as a threat, just someone constantly breaking the Terms Of Use you agreed to.

    There are none........still.

Ok so icloud IS a safe and simple option for you. .............

Are you sure? It seems it may have a large SSL hole in it right now? Along with lots of other apps on Mavericks.

No, you were offensive and irrelevant, hardly a threat to anyone though,
