Feb 26, 2014 12:08 PM in response to Gerrit7by U.B.,I still think that Apple will never again allow local network nor usb synching no matter how many messages you send to them.
However, I’m hoping for other 3rd parties to create their own OS and iOS apps with wi-fi synching for calendars, reminders, contacts, bookmarks and emails.
For now 1Password allows me to do wi-fi synching of my passwords it this way.
While we wait, I can suggest to you my primitive way of getting calendar events into my iPhone.
I use this software called Caliander that syncs with Apple Calendar.
https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/caliander/id406636679?mt=12&ls=1
The interface directly shows your event notes which you can then save as .pdf with the span of chosen days. I then email this .pdf to myself and can easily zoom in to see details of my calendar.

Local network synchronization of Contacts and Calenders can still be done, use Microsoft Exchange, however you will have to pay for it.

May 11, 2015 8:37 AM in response to Csound1by userremoved,Unique posters? What do you mean? Did Apple set a record with this one?
-
Feb 26, 2014 12:28 PM in response to userremovedby Csound1,No idea, so I am asking you
The question is, how many people have posted in this thread, (excluding multiple post from the same poster). Then we can subtract the posts by people who neither noticed or cared about it.

Feb 26, 2014 12:36 PM in response to Csound1by Boyd Porter,I was just looking at the start of this megathread. There was the OP and three replies (which included one from the OP). The fourth reply began the slide to anarchy. So you could subtract all but the first three replies. I come to these megathreads periodically for the amusement value.
Have a nice day.

My blog on "Local Network" sync is growing "http://www.tompkins-macqueen.com/Site/TechnoBlog/Entries/2014/2/21_Instaling_OSX _Server_for_local_sync.html"
All Apple and all allowed.

Nice to find out that some one check my blog I hope you don't think its twaddle and yes 99.99% safe LOL yep I'm happy. note shour what "bird on the surf board." means?
Csound1 "I assume that you keep current backups?" Its not as easy as it once was.
I did make backup by sync'ing my notes on my iPhone 3G to my macbook pro and having Time Mechine do it's work on top of that I use file sync to keep my home directory on my mac in sync with my Documents directory on a PC running Linux that is also backed up. BUT!!! NOW I have to add a step because of the lack of SyncServices I have to e-mail my notes to my self from my iPhone 3G

What a palaver, why not use any one of the dozens of local (generally wifi) solutions that exist, Documents to Go is one (excellent) example. Using the (supplied) app for the Mac you can transfer and use any document in any direction. Including a note. Over a local connection.

Feb 26, 2014 1:16 PM in response to Csound1by TopSteve,I spent three days after I installed Mavericks and found my notes no longer found there way to the mail program searching the app store for a program that worked on my iPhone. The frustration "this app needs iOS 4.3 or above" on almost all of them.
As for "Documents to Go" "Application requires iOS 4.3 or Later" iPhone 3G will only support up to iOS 4.2.1
I like to have data on both Mac and PC so that's why I file sync home folders.
Having Time Machine running is no problem
I used to just plug my iPhone into my Mac and just not think about it the notes just appeared in mail.

Feb 26, 2014 1:26 PM in response to petermac87by Yule,Here's the killer. The iCloud preferences were changed by the 10.9.2 installer to favor the "service."
I found the same thing. Fortunately I had backed up and also created archives of my calendar and contact data. I cannot believe that Apple made this change without telling anybody. The 10.9.2 update was supposed to solve a security problem - they did not say it would default us to the iCloud.
Apple - Why are you not listening to our concerns?

How/what exactly what was changed in iCloud prefs?
-
Feb 26, 2014 1:53 PM in response to Chris CAby Yule,When I went to System Preferences and opened iCloud I found that all the options were checked. They were not checked before because I do not want my data to be on the iCloud. Apple gave no notice that the default would be changed in this upgrade.
Apple seems to have adopted a new policy that we all use iCloud by default and they have now made it a policy to make that so with their upgrades.
Things are getting worse.
My contacts and calendars contain confidential client data. If I let this get onto an outside server they would rightly kill me. No server or cloud is safe.

Feb 26, 2014 2:09 PM in response to Yuleby Csound1,I'm sorry but I can't replicate that, 4 machines upgraded, none of them had changed settings after the update.

No, because you deleted her and worked on the blog some more. Won't read it as I am happy with icloud but a non tech guide, assuming it works, will be useful as some of the links posted here are very technical, so well done. (Yes really)
