No server or cloud is safe.
Then why risk using it against your own advice?

May 11, 2015 8:37 AM in response to petermac87by userremoved,Your diligence and dedication to the conversation would surely cause a Shaolin Monk to bow to you in respect. As I am not in the realm of antagonizing people by beating a dead horse, I think on page six, three post down a participant by the name of, ”winglet” wrote a very compressive argument for the way a lot of people might feel about this situation. Predominantly us level, “1rs”. I think that this is much more than just a “technical issue” as once was easy, has now become hard and demanding. I will bother you no longer, and will appreciate the fact that we might hopefully agree to disagree. However, I think I would want to be around when this thread officially breaks the quarter million mark and keeps going.

Feb 26, 2014 4:37 PM in response to petermac87by Yule,OK. I will bite. If someone breaks into iCloud and finds out the location of my devices I shall not be happy but I shall be please that they do not have any of my data. All clouds and servers are unsafe places for my data.

I would still trust iCloud's encryption more than I would a 'strap'!
But good luck with that.

Feb 26, 2014 5:18 PM in response to petermac87by Skakagrall,I have just updated to 10.9.2.
All my calendar data has gone and — more important — the internet account I was using with OS X Server for synching has been deleted. (My Contacts data seems to be intact.)

When I went to System Preferences and opened iCloud I found that all the options were checked.
This has not happened on an iMac, Mac Pro, MacBook Air, 3 Mac minis and a MacBook Pro here. Whatever settings they had in plce remained unchanged after the 10.9.2 update. Some machines were updated using the combo updater to go from 10.9.0 straight to 10.9.2 and some were upgraded from 10.9.1 to 10.9.2.

I'm sorry but I can't replicate that, 4 machines upgraded, none of them had changed settings after the update.
That's because you're using iCloud, so no changes were needed. Those of us NOT using iCloud get strong-armed into using the "service."

Feb 27, 2014 8:56 AM in response to Matt Schultzby Csound1,If you were not using iCloud there would not have been an active account (one that you entered your ID and password in), so changing settings would not be relevant.
What services in iCloud did you have switched on prior to the update, or did you just sign in and leave everything switched off.

Feb 27, 2014 9:09 AM in response to Csound1by ccs93,I fall into the catagory of which you outline, I use iCloud for Find my iPhone/iPad but have everything else turned off.
Can't comment on this particular update though as I rolled back to Mountain Lion to reinstate local syncing while waiting to see if more palateable options develop.

Feb 27, 2014 9:10 AM in response to Csound1by Matt Schultz,That would be a discussion better served in a separate post, further examination is not relevant here. I brought it up because it's a newly forced opposite of what so many are trying to accomplish in this discussion.

Feb 27, 2014 9:19 AM in response to Matt Schultzby Csound1,Did the upgrade sign you into an account that you were previously not signed into (iCloud) and then turn on services that you did not want.
Yes or no will suffice
