Feb 28, 2014 7:52 AM in response to Csound1by beninabox,Unfortunately I'm not an expert. Suppose I have some sound files from my iMac that I want to quickly get to my iphone to listen to on the road (as a musician this happens often). How do I do that? Do I need to go thru 3rd party software and if so, what's good? Same thing for calender info that I need for the road?

I really don't understand why you don't just omit supplying the login credentials.
How do we then update the software on these machines? Without an Apple ID, Software Update does not work for us.
I've purchased a ton of Apple equipment of late and I have no idea how to fire those new machines up and start working on them without an iCloud account and an Apple ID. There is no path that I can discern that would allow a person to avoid that. Please elucidate, thanks.

I have never lost addresses from my Mac through iCloud. They get backed up, not removed. I have also downloaded the 10.9.2 update on one Mac and installed it on the other 4 while they were offline, so your issues do not seem normal by a longshot.

So you're reporting that nothing happened? How interesting.
I watched as individual addresses, in order, kept disappearing from the Address Book or Contacts List or whatever they're calling it now. It ceased when I pulled the Ethernet cable out of it's RJ45 socket. I can only report what happened to me, and I'm certain everyone here is relieved that nothing happened to you.
Thanks so much!

Login to the App Store using the Apple ID, iCloud has a seperate login, don't use it.

During Setup, when you reach the stage that asks you to enter your Apple ID, don't. Just press continue.
Are you seriously asking how not to login to iCloud?
Really

For the record nothing happened to me or any of the people I know personally that have upgraded.

If you use Mavericks you can not sync via a USB cable via iTunes anymore. But you can use any other method you want to.
That isn't correct Csound1, but I understand how this can even confuse you.
On 10.9 you can sync your music & apps, video TV, books, podcasts, photos over USB. You simply can no longer sync contacts, calendars, notes or bookmarks over USB. iTunes wifi sync will also copy the same items without syncing contacts, calendars, notes and bookmarks.
Contacts, calendars, notes and bookmarks syncing require you to use iCloud, run your own server or use another 3rd party service if you hope to get them to sync whilst on the road.
You will find that bookmarks & notes syncing don't work with many services outside of iCloud.
How do you move music around at the moment beninabox? iTunes should still sync music via a USB cable or over wifi if you use that option.

We are talking about Calendar and Contact sync, not videos or music or apps.

There are several services that will sync Calendars, Contacts, Notes and Tasks. There are also bookmark sync services available (Xmarks for one), and then there is iCloud as well as them.
For a fuller list of available services read the thread.

Feb 28, 2014 10:31 AM in response to Csound1by phanam,Something off-topic where I might need your (or any) help:
in this thread on top of every page is written "Branched to a new discussion.", the link pointing to https://discussions.apple.com/thread/5938516
Trying to get to this branched discussion, the message below appears.
What's happening here? How can I follow the branched discussion?
Thx in advance!

Feb 28, 2014 11:49 AM in response to Csound1by phanam,CSound, useful as always by stating the obvious
Perhaps I expected too much when asking someone with 30795 points and perhaps access to an administrator which is referenced by above message but cannot be found, neither by google, nor by the internal help function or any other means.
@all other readers of this thread: can someone follow the branched discussion and tell me what it is about?
Thanks again in advance !

And we are back on track concerning this thread ! It is the same kind of logic that has offline-sync removed .. but we cannot ignore *that*.
