A bunch of reasons; 1) I dont always have internet avaialble when I want to sync, 2) I want my kids on my applie account and my iCloud account (for the find my phone feature) but if we set up all of the phones to have iCloud backup, I get all of their contacts and calendar appointments on my phone, 3) Whether legitimate or not (I dont really know), I have privacy concerns over iCloud, and 4) there simply is no reason to eliminate wired sync.
iCloud is a single user system, by choosing to use it in a manner it was not designed to do you will be dissapointed.
Use iCloud as it is supposed to be used, or use something else.

Mar 2, 2014 11:56 PM in response to Gerrit7by AhPek,The main reason I've been using iphone and ipad for years is I found it so convenient when eveything can be sync using iTune locally with my Mac. I don't need to depends on cloud like Google or any third party server. All are under the same family Apple product. I can set my contact on my phone to show Last name first or First name first (I'm not USA citizens and the way we read last name and first name is different), which calendar need to sync and which not from my Mac Book, etc where I can previously do it from iTune..... But with the new change where we can only sync with i-Cloud and can't sync locally using USB port with my Mac, my i-products become no difference with other Android products. I lost control locally and can't do much of setting. Very frustrated.
Also, I start asking ... Why I need to use i-cloud instead of google? If I use Google, what is the point I stick with i-phone, Android phone or Tab will be no difference. What happen if the free data space on i-cloud is full and I have to pay annually just to sync my Mac with my i-phone? If I'm in business trip and with no wifi, how can I sync my data immediately with all my i-products so I can keep track of my schedule promptly, I can't do it with my USB cable? In overseas, not everywhere comes with free wifi.
All I can say is the change does not consider much of how the consumer act. Is not a clever move especially Apple is not giving an option to the consumer. There is a group of loyal consumers that stick with Apple products (Mac, I-pad and i-phone) for a reason. With this change, Apple is giving us an options to try Android or any other porducts. It is not a clever move from Apple.
I'm a loyal Apple user and is feeling very frustrated with this change. If Apple do not take consider consumer behaviour and their engineer thought they can force consumer to do it on their way, very soon, it will be like Kodak, Nokia ... you once a market leader, but if you do not act properly, soon, we will say bye bye.

Do we know which manager/section at Apple is involved with the coordination ('interoperability'?) of Apple computers and devices? It would be useful to know who is taking these radical decisions.

Mar 3, 2014 12:40 AM in response to Gerrit7by Unixphone,I guess there is no update to this issue? I for one will be dropping all Apple products if this isnt resolved. It _WAS_ convienent to be able to sync all my phone data via itunes. The push to iCloud is anything but useless and just another way to force people to buy storage and use their cloud services. This isnt like a floppy disc or cdrom. I've used Linux in my past and everyday at work. Moving back to it and getting me a nice fancy Android would be pretty painless for me.
What's up Apple? will you continue this path and knowingly lose users? This isnt the year 2000.... there are different options for us.
p.s. unless this issue is resolved, my next phone will not be the iphone 6 but an Android.

Seriously, tell Apple. We are just other users here. Your decisions have no bearing on us.
Give Apple feedback

Their user base use the proper feedback channel. These forums are a place Apple provide for users to help each other solve technical issues. Did you not read the Terms Of Use before you clicked on 'Agree'?
Anyway, use the link I provided.
Cheers

ps. it's great in the cloud. A bit crowded with the other 320 million iCloud accounts, but otherwards great, thanks.

The minute they start charging for all icloud space I am probably with you, and will look at the other options described in this thread, but as you get 5GB for FREE and contacts/calendar take up a tiny fraction, I don't see your argument.
And as for moving away from all the other advantages of Apple products just to get the same thing on inferior products is a weak argument. I have used Windoze since 3.1, with Dell. IBM, Compaq, and owned Blackberrry and Android devices and I have been very happy to move 100% to Apple. As an engineer, all I can say is the build quality jumps out and bites your nose. Go on admit it, you really want a plastic Acer, really?
I have been on many forums, including British Telecom, Blackberry, Apple . They never read the forums, they just pay for the space to cut down on their own helpdesk costs and have mugs like us do their work for them.

So true. So we take amost of the flak for them also. But at times it's rewarding when dealing with polite people who wish to troubleshoot their technical issues. That's why people need to tell Apple their issues with things beyond our control.

So, you are more than willing to turn over everything you do
in your life to the likes of Google who monitors all your activities?

Google sell the content of your emails, calendars and contacts to anyone with the money to buy, but if you don't mind that go ahead, they will not charge you for selling your data, but you won't get a cut of the money.
